This time last year we were all in a brilliant mood as pictures of Lukaku on the plane were being posted. Plane trackers had us all laughing and we were all looking forward to the up coming season.

I always find it very strange when a player's release clause is made public like that, especially coming from a person who doesn't want him to leave and for such a low fee (regarding quality).

Be stupid if he went to Barca, wouldn't get a sniff even when he is allowed to play which isn't for 6 months

"Finally, according to reports, Everton sent their head of player recruitment Ian Atkins to Benfica's U21's match against Birmingham City last night.

SportsWitness have revealed Atkins travelled to St George's Park yesterday to watch Benfica youngsters defeat Birmingham City 1-0.

Let's hope we see the next Cristiano Ronaldo or João Moutinho gracing the Goodison turf in the distant future."

From the Echo... pissing Joao Moutinho!
Or the next Joao Silva!

It's not exactly the first 11 that needs working on, it's the squad depth as a whole which is dire compared to other teams we're expected to be challenging.

Seeing as we have hamstring injuries galore at the minute the depth needs working on big time.

We have a big squad though - ok there are some players some rate more then others - but its going to take someone significant to displace any of the all fit starting 11, i think its triky to find better quality then our starting 11 all fit and while many of our squad players arent of the highest quality they are PL quality and capable.

I guess i just dont see the panic and desperation. In fact it think we need to shed a few, before any new additions. In reality we're looking for depth at centre back and someone to compete with Barkley, Osman and Naismith - hopefully someone of high quality with a different skill set - but our suad is the strongest in terms of depth and numbers then it has ever been in the modern era. i think we may in fact have to many players and outs are necessary.

Additionaly we also wont all the young bright things to break through and the could but there has to be space for them.

We actually dont need much but varience and cover in one position - we're right to be pateint as we are far from desperate.

You're right, you know. I think the thing Martinez is best at when it comes to transfer windows is not giving off any air of desperation. He's patient and willing to wait as long as needed to get the player he wants. There's going to be more players coming in this window. Bet you anything they'll be quality as well. It's all about the waiting game.
