....it would be a risk expecting Barkley to produce the goods consistently. He shows flashes of brilliance but we need more. We also need competition for all positions.
There was that but I do think if we where really serious about a) the playmaker and b) aiming for champions league we probably would have signed him.Yes, the unproven French lad that West Ham will be paying 75k a week to when hes 33 years old.
I get that particular premise, but I'm also big on clubs/teams maximizing their assets.

btw - Was it not closer to 60K
Too true. FFS.Says the man who is responsible for about 90% of the posts in the Fume thread lol
Even when Barkley isn't playing great he's still one of our better players. There will be times he will need dropped like Rom last season but this constant desire by some that he's borderline a 1st 11 player is ridiculous. It's just as ridiculous as the calls to drop Rom and have him fighting for his place.....I suppose much depends on the asset. We can't just play Barkley because he's there. He's a talent and will play as long as he produces.
PSVs system i read today is 4-3-3 with one holding player and 2 attacking centre midfielders.
So perhaps the idea is to have him and Barkley in the attacking roles with Cleverley and Osman as backup.
I said "there was that". I understand the reasons why we swerved but there doesn't look like there's anyone else available that we can attract and can do that job.You have no idea how he will adapt in this league.
Hes had 2 good seasons in his whole career, your acting like we swerved Messi ere, hes just a French lad who had a good season last year, he aint all dat.
23m wages / by 6 year contract = 73k a week.

Thankfully I really think we where going to struggle getting anyone better. Now lets tie down Mirallas for the next 4 years with a nice fat contract and put this one to bed.Speculation about Mirallas moving thankfully seems to have died down. Anyone know if Monaco has signed any wingers this summer - they looked one of his better options given they are in the CL.
Kristof offhandedly mentioned him today.
@HLNinEngeland: Tottenham are the first PL team w 4 Belgians on the first squad list (loans don't count): Vertonghen, Chadli, Dembélé, Alderweireld. #THFC
@ThomasBo82: @HLNinEngeland do you expect any more Belgians at Spurs at before the season starts?
@HLNinEngeland: @ThomasBo82 They have looked at some (Mirallas/Carrasco). Not sure they ll get them.
TBF the ross of 13/14 still needed to be more consistent, and he wasnt much of a creative force. It's impossible to tell, of course, but what do people think: are the likes of Wijnaldum and Praet genuinely better than the Barkley we saw in 13/14?
