Ability wise i don't think he is anything we don't already have, so he wouldn't give us options there, not really. Aerial threat ? Yes maybe, but we starve our forwards as is and rarely get crosses in for an aerial threat to emerge. Not to mention how piss poor we are at crossing the ball that has any kind of effect.

An obvious upgrade on Kone, but i just picture the way we play and from having watched Austin, think we would starve him somewhat to the point he would be pretty much ineffective. Austin is a no for me...
I obvs meant aerial as a prefix for all the words that followed, so I meant aerial ability.

Agree with that. Lukaku is a classy forward and finishes well when given that bit of time to set up; I like the idea of someone else in who can snap up a half chance.

Would be a shot in the arm if we landed him.

He's a proper target man as well and leads the line very well. I think he would take a lot of pressure of Lukaku if he came by doing a lot of the donkey work. It has a bit of the Andy Grey/Sharp feel to it. I hope it comes off.

We'd have a properly dangerous strike force to trouble anyone in the league if we got Austin...but with our usual 1 striker system, the price, and our need for a creative midfielder i just can't see it happening. A man can dream though.

Yeah, me too.

Fingers crossed. We need a boost from somewhere that's for sure.

There's loads of creativity in this side, it's just the way they were set up and played that's been the issue.

You think Baines, Coleman, Mirallas, Cleverley, Barkley, Osman, Peinnar , McGeady and Delefeou can't make things happen??

There is no miracle man who'd going to come in and resolve all our issues, it runs deeper than that. Baines was again one of the most productive players in the league last year so no one is coming in who's doing much better than him anyway.

It's how we play, 2 strikers make them sit deeper and automatically frees up space for our attacking midfielders especially a striker like Austin who can play with his back to goal and does have excellent movement.

But Pienaar is the only one of those players, maybe bar Osman with less frequency, who can take the ball under pressure and thread/play something more subtle. I could go each player (I won't because neither of us will appreciate it haha) but, whilst you're right about bringing a certain type of creativity, none are going to help us Vs Sunderland/West Brom etc etc ie teams that come and sit in. That's proven over 38 games last season. We were found out because of our lack of playmaker option, a point confirmed with Martinez's very public statements over getting that player in.

If we sign this playmaker who at least offers us what we need against the bottom 10 clubs, then absolutely Austin is a brilliant striker option. Seems a bit redundant to me though.

would love you to point me out to QPR's creative player though. they created a heck of a lot less than we do.

I'm not going to do that mate, instead point out that QPR aren't Everton. What I mean is that every single team in that league played against them fancying themselves and had a go. That attacking mentality meant that, in return, QPR could play with 2 strikers and have a go back.

Again, for us, how is he going to get that extra space due to the opponents having an attacking mentality when for us the entire opposition will be camped inside their half and we are desperately playing the ball side to side to create a pocket of space that NO current (fit) player has the ability to play or even see?

....whether it's Austin or somebody else we really need another attacking threat, be it to play alongside Lukaku or be an alternative if the big fella is out, has a loss of form or come off the bench if there's stalemate.

2001–2002 Rio Sport 30 (17)
2002–2003 Lierse 32 (11)
2003–2005 Roda 63 (27)
2005–2007 PSV 53 (21)
2011–2012Levante (loan) 34 (15)
2012–2013 Wigan Athletic 33 (11)

What's your point? Only at Sevilla and Everton he has not delivered

Wiki says he is meant to be 31 which means he would of been knocking the goals in for Rio Sport at 17.
Wonder how old he actually is

Definitely, just seems that £15m puts him out the price range
