It was an odd signing i think based solely on his loan contribution.

Should be McCarthy and Besic competing for one spot...no place for Barry as the other should be between Barkley and Cleverley.

Think Martinez needs a couple more additions to make that happen though as were still light in quality in a few areas and overloaded with dross in others.

If we have 4 more players like Barry we are screwed

Thought that was a big problem yesterday, some fans moaning we keep possession too much.Yet Lukaku is screaming for the early long ball , when played that way he was out muscled by Prodl & Cathcart. Even when the ball did drop for him its like he's tryin to trap a beachball, then we lose it ....Seriously needs to up his game.
he was 'outmuscled' by Prodl & Cathcart because he was standing still waiting for the ball. He didn't even try to make it difficult for them by changing his position. He'd be stood there, the defenders would move in, the ball would be passed and he'd still be stood in the same place when the defenders intercepted it unopposed.
If you play up there (especially on your own) you've got to be on the move constantly.

it's still no excuse for him only just making it into the box (behind 2-3 other Everton players) when balls are being fired across it. that's his first priority as a striker be in the box fighting for the ball.

whatever the problem was with him yesterday, it's nothing blaming the tactics will solve. Even when the rest of the team pulled their collective fingers out in the second half he was the same. There wasn't even much difference when Kone (Kone!! FFS!!) had to come on and show him what to do. Even then he was still the 2nd-3rd of our players to make it into the box and he rarely attacked the ball when it was there.

what more can Bobby do other than sit him on the bench for a couple of games? (something that we can't afford to do due to a lack of option)

It's more frustration with Barkley. The lad has bags of talent, and even though he is still only 21, for me, he should be showing more consistency (Martinez takes some blame though because of playing him all over the place) now because he's had a lot of first team football.

By the way, this isn't having a pop at Barkley, as I say, just frustration. Hopefully he's going to be boss this season.
I think it's the pressure. You can have all the talent in the world but most top players also have that arrogance that goes with it. Barkley doesn't and as a result I think he will take longer and be more inconsistent but it's not something he can "fix". You can't just ask someone to change their personality.

Knee jerk reactions to Martinez's job security shouldn't be made after one game of the season in which one half of it was actually a decent performance against a prospect that can only happen to three teams a season in facing the high on confidence and eager newly promoted team.

If yesterday's game affects your views on the managers job then I don't think footballs for you, or failing that Everton isn't the team for you.

He's had one bad season and one good season, if we're in the same position as we were going into 2015 in 2016 then I wouldn't blame people for questioning whether it's time for him to go. But Jesus Christ after one home draw you can't seriously be wanting him out? You've got to have some sort of consistency and we need to give him time to show us which of his previous two seasons as Everton boss was a fluke.

Almost 100 games in the bag with 4 transfer windows to boot.

Vault me lad. He will not be with everton next season.

Palace showed yesterday how to deal with a newly promoted side. Crystal Palace ffs (no offence @Alan Whittle). We seems to always have a problem and some excuses.

Not the best example. I mean did you see the goal Norwich got disallowed? If the ref wasn't a complete idiot then Norwich would have won.

Plus Norwich battered them, so I don't really get this.

Lennon is a must for me
Me too. I don't think Cleverly works on the left. I thought it would and he was decent enough especially considering he had Galloway and not Baines to work with but now it looks like Baines is out for a while so we need a proper winger there and not someone who will link up with the fullback.

Shaqiri, Lennon and a striker and CB and that would be me happy. Unfortunately we know we are only after 3 players.

Meant to add there were some fantastic crosses from wide into the box in particular from Coleman & Mirallas ,they were just begging for someone to get on the end of.
He couldnt even make up the ground to get infront of 2 of the slowest centre halfs we'll see at Goodison this year.as i said seriously needs to up his game or get someone else to do it.Big kick up the backside needed ,score a couple of them chances & we coast through the rest of the game.Thats the difference.

It's never good playing a promoted side on the first day however if you are going to play them then a home draw is the best. By the time we play Norwich they'll be struggling.

It's a result that matters. They won against a newly promoted side at away.

They may have been battered, but we're in control for most of the time and then concede a goal and lose points. It's a scheme.

Do you maybe think it was because he did his hamstring 2 weeks ago and was a bit worried about redoing it? Rom didn't look fit.

Deulofeu was supposedly almost ready for yesterday,he said Besic will be fit for next week,I bet neither make it,he does really spout some garbage to us in relation to injuries,he has to pull a couple of rabbits out of the hat this week re: transfers to lift us all.
I'm not sure how much either matters. Would Deulofeu and Besic get in ahead of Mirallas and Barry? I doubt it.
