Transfer Window Thread

I would like to see the amount of signings made by clubs 5 years ago compared to this year and last.

It does seem that teams used to bring in 3-maybe 4 players tops.

Now its 8-9 and no one bats an eye lid

I don't remember a fume this much over a transfer window and we have in the past only got 2/3 players in before, is it because now days so many more transfers occur? Maybe its with social media/24 hours news etc it is more in our face

It's more the lack of investment than the amount of signings. Other teams appear to be moving forward whilst we're standing still.

Roberto Martinez says work to identify potential summer targets has already begun.

“We have got a strong team with incredible experience - all we need is two or three players to take us to the next level and that’s something that is based on a lot of work and a lot of effort identifying those players.

“The recruitment department has been working really well over the last six months because we need to assemble a really strong squad for next season."

Asked if he had identified his targets, Martinez said: “We have got real clarity in who we want. More than anything, it is that personality who we think can fit into our football club, cope with the expectations and fit into what we want to build.

“That has been work we’ve developed since January and we are very happy with the options we have.”
He just says a jumble of words with no meaning. He's worse than Rodgers for jargness.

He's a winger/striker.

Having a fancy name and spikey hair doesn't make him a number 10.

He played directly behind the striker as false 9 the year he banged in 20+ for Real Madrid B.
Remember Henry was a winger at Juve. Jesé could easily play as a 10... and score a bucket load too.

Here's a thought, maybe the board see no point in spending 12/15mil on a player when it is unlikely to improve the team so much so that they will go from mid table to upper mid table. Too much risk. The first 11, notwithstanding injuries (yeah unlikely I know) is still a good team. So to that end they have probably adopted a model similar to Newcastle whereby avoiding relegation is deemed a success. Sad days if true !

we are very similar to newcastle. very similar!. with no real spend on improving the squad, we are going to struggle bigtime, just like newcastle have the lst couple of years.

sooo frustrating!
