Travel thread 3.0

First time mate

Here for 2 weeks, possibly 3 if we like it 😎

I won't be going to Patong 😂

Whete would you recommend for traditional street food ?
It's been a while, and not sure where you are staying, but Cape Panwa had some fantastic streetside restaurants. Menus and staff had zero English, so just point at something and hope for the best 😊 We had a fantastic meal each time for less than 10% of what you pay in Patong.or Karon

Not too sure if we will venture out that far other than to Phi Phi Island and Krabi. Loads to choose from so I think we will make a plan tomoz. I think we might head down to the night market tomoz also. Tonight I'm just chilling and waiting for the game (23:30pm)
Phang nga Bay is amazing and not too far. The photos on google don't do it justice (you may recognise it from James Bond movies)

Thanks mate, though we are staying in the Karon beach region of Phuket, so Cape Panwa is some bit away from me.

I'm really considering doing an extra week so we can venture out a bit further perhaps

I'm hoping to go over to Phi Phi on Thursday and also visit Krabi. The weather looks to have calendar down a little by then. Saying that, it promised rain yesterday and it was red hot , in the lower 30's all day

Anywhere away from the tourist areas, even 2 minutes away, and where the menus are only in Thai is bound to be great and dirt cheap.

Or you may get food poisoning. you pay your money, you take your chances 😂😂

If you fancy a change from stout this is a nice place
Am going over for a Beamish binge with the lads but i am actually a Craft Beer head by trade,so The Franciscan Well is on the list as well as the Rising Sun brewery👍

Helsinki for me on Saturday...

Do I ask for tips? Or do I just stay in the in room Sauna? 😅

No plans to visit the smaller towns outside of Helsinki?

No, this restaurant was across the road from us, so legt the scooter at the hotel.

I haven't, though I've definitely seen it on the menu so I will have a go at that 👍

Was planning on going on a mooch today nut ove list woke up and it's absolutely belting down with crazy thunder and lightning. Hoping it passes later but the forecast isn't looking promising

That happened when i was there last trip so i went to Night & Day Phuket town. From there you can walk down the streets to all the little stores there (mostly for tourists) and tick that box off.

Otherwise in thailand (and all SE Asia) the rain can come down for 5min-3hrs then suddenly stop. Its not like europe where it can be raining for days (though now is still rainy season in thailand!)

Quite nice to sit in a restaurant and have the beach/ocean views while its raining.

Stumbled across this during the week.
My Wife and I travelled by Ryan air .it must be me getting bigger, but there isn't a pile of room in the seats ,I mistakenly booked the window seat and an aisle seat for both ways.
On each journey the Plane was full but the middle seat remained clear for us, Might be just a coincidence, but I'm guessing passengers who choose seats don't opt for middle seats.
There you go, my top holiday tip,I thank you !.

I'm currently in Helsinki only to realize that the football is on. I would have changed my plans if I'd known. It didn't even occur to me to check. Seems quiet weeso far mind.

The rest of my trip has been Prague, Kutna Hora, Riga and Tallin. All great walkable cities except for Kutna which is a little dull. I went to see the bone church and it was thoroughly underwhelming.

The ex-Soviet states were a pleasant surprise. Everyone speaks English fluently and the architecture is stunning. Any illusions that the Russians may have of been fondly remembered are misguided. There is a huge amount of support for Ukraine and a fair bit of anti-Russian messaging from graffiti to the War museum.
