My condolences.Mrs C and myself are heading to New York in a few weeks, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Honestly, if you're talking about NYC, there's really more than you can ever do in one trip, so my advice is don't try to do too much. Have a few sights in mind, find a show or two, and look up some good places to eat. Don't expect to get the full experience in one go.Mrs C and myself are heading to New York in a few weeks, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Walk the high line. Staten Island ferry. It’s such a mad city, just find a good spot for a coffee beer and watch the world go by. Avoid Times SquareMrs C and myself are heading to New York in a few weeks, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Empire state building at sunset - you get to see the city during the day and at night for one ticket.Mrs C and myself are heading to New York in a few weeks, any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the advice, we have already decided not to try and cram too much in. Will give the Brooklyn Bridge a go and I will find the Turnmill.Honestly, if you're talking about NYC, there's really more than you can ever do in one trip, so my advice is don't try to do too much. Do use the public transport, as it's really the only city in the US that has a great train system. Know that the city, while 'dirtier' than a place like London, is actually quite safe. Don't be too afraid of going out at night.
As far as must sees, I'd suggest to anyone to walk the Brooklyn Bridge. It's free and provides the best views of lower Manhattan. Also, go to the Turnmill! It's an Everton bar located in Manhattan. Really great place to catch a game or just grab a drink.
We are staying near Times Square and we will take a look at it but plan to move around using the trains. We intend to go on the Staten Island ferry, it has already been recommended. Thank you for the help. There are a couple of things there that no one else has mentioned. I will definitely look into them.Empire state building at sunset - you get to see the city during the day and at night for one ticket.
Alternatively (or in addition to) there is a rooftop bar (52 floors high) on 7th ave (I think) which is free and has a great view of empire state building
Walk the highline.
Walk 125th street in Harlem.
Cross the Brooklyn bridge (don't buy ice cream when you get there though, they want $15 for a soft serve)
Get the subway to Roosevelt island
With the subway, you can pay on your credit card as you go and after 12 rides, the rest are free (as long as you use the same card every time). We used the 12 rides in the first 3 days so free rides for the rest of the weekWe are staying near Times Square and we will take a look at it but plan to move around using the trains. Sounds fantastic. Unfortunately it’s in France.Just spent a week in Toulouse with a friend who lives there. Really nice city. Very flat with extensive cycling infrastructure so great to cycle around the city and along the canals and the river Garonne. Not a ton of things to see, landmarks-wise, but went to some big public gardens, did a scary escape room, cycled a lot, roamed around and consumed a lot of very good food. On the last day we also went about 20 minutes out of the city to a safari zoo, split between driving around in your car passing elephants, giraffes and lions, and then parking up and going to the other side of the zoo on foot to see the smaller animals like red pandas, emus and a couple tigers. They also had a pool where seals were doing tricks. Very comfortable 20+°c the whole time during the day and rarely dropping below 15°c at night.
