Travel thread 3.0

I was there last December. I was recommended by local people to try Trastevere for eating and drinking. Turned out to be good info. Lots a nice bars and restaurants and cheaper than central Rome even though it is very close to the centre anyway
Cheers mate, added to the list. I've heard Testaccio is another area like that? Bit further out than Trastevere by the look of it

Right heading to New York with my other half and son who is 16. We are there 29th December to 2nd Jan. Want to pack as much as we can in. We have a NFL game booked for 1st evening. What else shall we go and see? Recommendations much appreciated. Appreciate it will be freezing but thermals will be bought!

For starters:

Top of the Rock
Central Park
Empire State
Brooklyn Bridge
Stature of Liberty/Ellis Island

Do Broadway if you've never been, times square obviously. Try pizza and a Jewish deli

Lots of good suggestions already.
The Met is fantastic. Definitely worth visiting if you like museums and want to get out of the cold for a day.
Some other things you might like to try:
NY bagels and black and white cookies
Junior’s in Brooklyn or midtown for cheesecake
If you’re interested in ice hockey or basketball, you can catch a game at MSG (not sure if the Rangers and Knicks will play at home during your visit)

Anyone solo travellers out there? I'm planning on my first Euro solo trip next year and I'm thinking Amsterdam (not for those reasons!!). Finding it quite daunting to even think about, happy to go anywhere in the UK solo, but Euro is a whole new ball game. Any better suggestions?

Come up with a daily plan. I travelled a lot solo before I got married and loved it but it's very easy to decide to spend a day in your hotel. Plan something and force yourself to do it.

If you're short on time I recommend doing a hop on/hop off. It will take you to the main sites and you can choose which ones you want to see more of.
