Travel thread 3.0

Off to Jordan on Friday, staying with friends in As-Salt.

https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/...middle-easts-city-of-tolerance-and-generosity

While there we'll be doing a stage of the Jordan Trail, leaving us with just two to do, hopefully next year.

https://jordantrail.org/

The trail covers the whole length of Jordan, about 675km, and takes in some of the well-known places such as Petra and Wadi Rum. It's reckoned it can be completed in about 40 days but that would be pushing it a bit too much for my liking. Easier for us to do it in stages. I've met people doing it solo but I'd recommend going with a group or at least one other person.

Even by Arab standards the people are very friendly and welcoming. English is widely spoken but learn a few basic Arabic phrases and you'll have friends for life.

Also recommend buying this:

Enjoy!
That’s a dream trip for me right there

Does my head in that expats living in the Gulf always jet off to Asia or Maldives/Seychelles/Zanzibar and hardly bother with the neighbours.

Jordan IS amazing.

Need to start hitting Saudi as a tourist rather than just in and out work trips. Just before they announced they were open for tourism they launched a page on Insta called "Where in the world."

So good.

After some advice here please,
We are off to New York for four days then onto Barbados for eight days next year for the Mrs’s 50th, this is a holiday of a lifetime for us, we’ve never been the states before so can’t wait obviously,
The question is the price of the travel insurance, it’s coming in at £250 minimum, probably because I’ve got a dodgy ticker and she’s got high blood pressure,
Is this the norm or am I getting fleeced due to the financial situation the country is in?
Thanks for all good & bad advice.

I would say that sounds about right to be honest given the circumstances. Have you checked on comparison websites?

had a great time @JimmyJeffers thanks. Weather was great apart from last day (returned early Tues last week). Plenty of days out and about, few days at the beach and festival on for 4 days. You unlucky weather wise?
Was ok. They always over estimate the rain here. Was gonna go camping but sacked it after seeing the forecast. Stayed mainly an hour north of Tavira. Was unreal. Easily one of my favourite parts of the world

We had a terrific three days in Liverpool in late August, the weekend we were away at Brentford, and we found a fabulous spot in St John's Market which I didn't know even existed.

It's up a lot of steps and there are loads of cafes with outdoor tables behind a long glass fence.

I can't find it on Google Earth and I don't remember seeing it before when I've been in Liverpool - the last time was 2018 - is it new?

There are even lawns up there. And what a great view. Is it above the underground market?

Sounds remarkably like Chavasse Park over the top of Liverpool One as opposed to anything in St John's.

Could you see the Hilton Hotel dead opposite?

I expect you have got St John's Market and John Lewis (also opposite) mixed up.

I think you're right. I've looked at it on Google Earth and can't get to the exact spot where we had a pizza and an ale, but it looks
like it. How long has Chavasse Park been there?

I was in Liverpool in 2000, 2006 and 2018 and haven't noticed it before.

The original park was there since the 80s, but when Liverpool One sprang up it took a lot of the park land meaning it had to be remodeled and put up on top. To answer your question on dates....not sure? Mid 2000s for Liverpool One?

It's easy enough to miss if you don't know it's there. Hundreds of thousands of visitors must walk past every year at street level and not have a clue.
