Travel thread 3.0

Got married in Vegas in the summer and we took in New York, Vegas, San Francisco, San Diego and LA, it was an amazing trip overall but what a dump LA is, the amount of drug addicts and headcases wandering about talking to themselves is off the scale, the metro system is like a mobile loony bin with some incident happening at every stop, even the street where they have the oscars is like a shanty town with bodies all over the sidewalk, not the tinsel town magical place its portrayed as at all.
Definitely a place to steer clear of

Honeymoon in four weeks time. Doing Thailand for the first time, have never been out East before.

Chiang Mai > Krabi > Phi Phi > Bangkok.
I did CM a few months ago. It's definitely worth a trip. You can visit Doi Suthep temple and the local Hmong and long neck villages too. They don't have much to see in all honesty but your small contribution helps them to survive. There is a big botanical gardens in CM if you're into that kind of stuff. The taxi buses I usually just hire for the day so I don't have to share. It means I don't have to hang around once I'm bored.

Krabbi is nice. The pyramids restaurant in AoNang is good for a cheap dinner that isn't Thai food. Take a boat trip. Any boat trip is good. You can arrange it with boat owners directly.

Bangkok offers little except shopping malls and hookers. Check out the grand palace and temple of the dawn. If you're there at the weekend check out chatuchak market.

Enjoy the trip

PS if you're visiting temples and palaces wear appropriate clothing. No knees and shoulders showing or you'll have to hire some clothes to wear to get in.

Weed and booze yes. Coke and brasses won't go down well with the pregnant wife.
The Rijksmuseum was very good,
This is a pretty good list of options -

In ‘t Aepjen little pub on Zeedijk is lovely spot. Great stories about the pubs and buildings along there.

Dunno if you have done any scuba before but you'll be in a great place to give it a go. Get a couple of try dives in so you don't have to do all the classroom stuff.

Off to Jordan on Friday, staying with friends in As-Salt.

While there we'll be doing a stage of the Jordan Trail, leaving us with just two to do, hopefully next year.

https://jordantrail.org/

The trail covers the whole length of Jordan, about 675km, and takes in some of the well-known places such as Petra and Wadi Rum. It's reckoned it can be completed in about 40 days but that would be pushing it a bit too much for my liking. Easier for us to do it in stages. I've met people doing it solo but I'd recommend going with a group or at least one other person.

Even by Arab standards the people are very friendly and welcoming. English is widely spoken but learn a few basic Arabic phrases and you'll have friends for life.

Also recommend buying this:

Any suggestions for things to do/see in Amsterdam outside of the obvious activities?
Rijkmuseum is an obvious choice - it is amazing to see first hand all the paintings you have seen on tv or on the internet. Some are a lot bigger than you think

Anne Franck house usually has a huge queue, so I never went in, but have heard some people say it is worth the wait.

Canal boat trips are good too, especially if you cba walking for a while.

Scheviningen (I have no doubt butchered the spelling) is a lovely little town on the coast if you feel like getting out the city - dozens of cafes and bars all along the beach.

Eat pancakes. Every second shop is a pancake cafe.
