Yeah me and the SO have said we’d share so reasonable lunch! There’s some other nice pastrami sandwich places too. Can’t think of them but Katz’s looks like the best one.
Yeah there are loads. I had a productive time in the office yesterday looking them up. Prices very similar across the board so not just a Katz tax. Producing good pastrami is very time and labour intensive apparently

Yes. Twice, lovely city. The main square is huge and beautiful, but a combination of tacky 'brit' oriented bars in one corner and very expensive tourist traps. First went in 2014 and it was not really like that, but last went 2020 and it had changed a lot. Best bars are the cellar bars imho. Not always easy to spot and quite often the music / karaoke give it away. There's a museum under the central building in the main square which is cool.

My top tip is go around the back streets of old town as the better/cheaper eateries and bars are there. The old Jewish quarter (Kazimierz) is great as well (tram or walk) with a ton of tragic history. We visited Schindlers factory and didn't have enough left in the tank to do the auschwitz tour.

The castle is great too - go up the bell tower for a top view.
Agree with all that. I stayed in Kazimierz. So much history there. I took the following pictures just across the river in Piwna street where damage from the war is still visible

Yeah, that area is pretty sobering. The ghetto trail and square with the empty chairs commemorating polish jews is haunting as well. Had mixed feelings about it, so important to remember such horrible acts so we don't repeat them, but it kinda felt ghoulish as a tourist.

Dunno if you walked around the University in Old Town? There's a history trail there detailing how the Nazis killed the intelligentsia. Grim.

Loved Krakow. Didn't have nearly enough time to see all I wanted to see and definitely want to return some time.

One of few places I've visited that I'd love to live in. Made coming back home feel very depressing in comparison.
Yeah, I'd happily go back for a third time. The first trip I did I ventured out to place called Nowa Huta on the tram. A Joseph Stalin commissioned 'New Town' meant to essentially be a bit of a propaganda piece to be a showpiece of the communist ideal of a Town built by workers for workers. Huge defunct steelworks there. The town is fascinating, well preserved Soviet era architecture and nothing like the main city.

I'd like to go to Warsaw, Wroclow and Gdansk as well, I've been told all are great.

Warsaw was cool. Went a fair while ago now (2009?) and was there for Eurobasket, so didn't have loads of free time, but got to walk around the town a bit and visited the War Museum, which also was very good/interesting, but again very sobering. It's amazing how the rebuilt the city after the war pretty much from the ground up to look like an old fashioned euro city still. Very picturesque in the main town centre area.

Just booked this year's holiday - going to Seville and want to spend a day each in Granada (to see the Alhambra) and Cordoba (to see the Mosque-Cathedral and other stuff), as well as looking around Seville itself. Any other recommendations?
The Royal Alcazar, Cathedral and Plaza de España in Seville are worth visiting, I’ve not done much else in Granada or Cordoba than what you mention. The first time I went to Granada we did a good walking tour but I don’t know if you’ll have the time. If you’re planning on travelling by train it’s worth opening an account with Renfe purely because it makes it easier booking trains on the website as you have to enter a lot of personal information, I added my wife’s details to my account before we went last year.

Few years back I flew to Szczecin up on the Baltic coast, then went to Poznan, Wroclaw and finally Krakow. Hired a car so drove to each place and stayed a few days in each city. Poland is a very underrated place to visit and unless things have changed quite cheap as well

Yeah, one of my teachers at school was Polish and he used to show us photos of his summer fishing trips to stunning looking lakes and his mountain hikes. Would love to see more.

Went to a flamenco show when I was there. Enjoyed that.
What time of year are you going?

In Granada, it's worth a hike up to the Caves of Sacromonte. It has great views of the Alhambra in the distance. The area is supposed to be a bit dodgy so watch out. It may be worth booking on a guided tour.

In Córdoba, even if you're not a big gardener like Joey, you should definitely take a guided tour of the various inner courtyards (patios).

Also, if you can get over the fact that he is an annoying Tory, Michael Portillo's Channel 5 series about Andalusia is decent. Seems to be on YouTube also.
