Anybody watched Godfather of Harlem? I’m three eps in and it’s not really grabbing me.

This sort of thing is usually right up my alley. Is it worth persevering with?

My missus is insisting we keep watching it, which is a pity as it was my suggestion. Normally I like lovercraftian horror and period TV shows about racism in the American South, but this hasn't blended those two elements particularly well. Ludicrous deus ex machina storytelling, I should know better than to watch anything JJ Abrams has touched

It does mate, but it’s one of those series that you either love or hate, much like Being Human.

It does get better from the second series onwards, as they spend more money on it due to it being a surprise hit.

I really don't get it's appeal beyond the odd throwback scene to the original movies. Once you get passed the nostalgia element it's basically a high school romance show for teens as far as I can see, genuinely puzzles me that loads of lads in their 40's watch it intensely lol

I think it's well written, and Johnny's journey from being a horrible gobshite to someone who at least wants to do the right thing is well mapped out and acted by Zabka. Obviously the nostalgia plays a part, but they don't lean on it too much imo
