TV Series

Everything is just spot on, characters are really well drawn and nuanced, dialogue is like something from a serious crime drama, action is sparse but visceral, its a proper, adult series.... with 'kin Tie Fighters.

100%

The writing and performances are magnificent, with no plot armour or tropes. That Lieutenant for example, really well played, great scenes last ep and this, cares for the locals and despises his boss and then bang. It is far better than even Mando and makes Obi-Wan look like the trash it so clearly was. In sci-fi TV terms for me only the very best of DS9 (Duet, In the Pale Moonlight, For the Uniform etc) gets anywhere near this.

We might even start to see why people (Karn for example) wanted to fight for the Empire, because of the acts (the murder of his men in his case) that the rebels, who may well be correctly portrayed as terrorists, did.

I said to mrs d this morning, its the first Star Wars that's primarily a drama rather than an adventure and I wonder how often they had to fight Disney during this production.

Good shout on the DS9 comparison, its a similar shift in tone, I like TNG but DS9 really broke it out of the box. But I'd actully go one further, in terms of epic Sci-fi drama, this is getting towards Battlestar remake levels, and I don't make that comparison lightly. Like that show, there's no clear lines between good and bad, there's a lot of complex motivation

House of Dragon. Watched Ep7 last night. Very Tense. Pot has been stirred well and its going to kick off. What I didn't like was having to turn off all the lights in the room just to make out half of it.

This has been one of my nitpicks for the show, especially the last couple of episodes. Some scenes are just too dark and the black is often too crushed (I think the latter may have to do with how the video has been encoded for streaming on Sky Go, Now TV etc.)

Not a TV series but a documentary called ‘Into the Deep’.

About inventor Peter Madsen who murdered a journalist aboard the submarine he built. A 90 minute documentary describing the timeline of events, but I found the last few minutes chilling when 11 months before the murder he talks in an interview about psychopaths walking amongst us, human predators, stalkers, describing their traits. He’s talking about himself and it sent a shiver down my spine.
