Everton’s U21 squad will head for their pre-season training camp in Austria on Tuesday – and first-team prospect Tyias Browning is set to be part of the travelling party.

Browning is understood to have asked for permission to join up with David Unsworth’s squad, despite the fact that he is expected to play a full part in the senior side’s pre-season preparations.

The 21-year-old made his senior debut for the Blues in the Merseyside derby at Anfield last September, and went on to make three appearances in all competitions. Roberto Martinez is keen to see more of the versatile Liverpool-born defender as he plans his side for next season.

Everton’s first-team squad are due to return to Finch Farm next month, with Martinez having mapped out an intensive 60-session schedule to ensure his side is fully prepared to hit the ground running by the time the new season starts.

They will spend the first week of pre-season, commencing on July 6, at Finch Farm before flying to Singapore, where they will play two games as part of the Barclays Asia Trophy. They will also, later in July, hold a five-day training camp in Scotland, ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign on August 8.

Browning, though, is eager to gain a headstart in terms of fitness, and has volunteered to begin his own pre-season a fortnight early by accompanying the rest of the club’s young guns, including the likes of Ryan Ledson and Jonjoe Kenny, to Austria.

Unsworth’s squad is set to be supplemented by a number of last season’s highly-rated U18s, with Antonee Robinson and Jordan Thorniley among those expected to step up.

Both have been offered contracts by the club, while young forward Calum Dyson will also be going to Austria with the U21s, and is viewed as one of the more promising youngsters emerging.

Good lad, shows an excellent mentality that. Really living up to his baby Distin nickname in his desire for fitness work.

He seems to be one of those players that has talent but also works extremely hard to make the most of it.

Would be nice for him to get some gametime for us next season.

Just like there are players who are bursting with talent and little work ethic, there are players who are short on talent but bursting with work ethic. Combine a solid work ethic with the athletic gifts Tyias has, and he might make it as a pro.

An interview with Ty

He has grown a lot more confident in his media work over the past year, he used to barely speak above a whisper in his interviews. Hope sacrificing a part of his holidays pays off for him and he does well in preseason.

Unsworth is unstinting in his praise

....yep, a bloke I know at FF told me Browning used to get a number of buses from his home off Queens Drive, West Derby to the training ground. He gave him a lift home once and hardly said a word in the car. I watched him a couple of times a few years back and admit to not picking him out as one to come through but he is a fine athlete and his dedication appears to be paying off. Seems a good lad, here's hoping.

Ha!

He might be nervous speaking in front of cameras but he handled his debut in front of the kop with aplomb.

As far as I'm concerned the lad never need give an interview again if he puts in performaces like he did against our lovable neighbours.

....I know folk on the back room staff at Wigan and I must ask why his loan was curtailed. A Wigan season ticket holder I know said he's never seen anybody as quick as him on a football pitch. He played full back a few times for them and his crossing wasn't the best but apparently he is rapid.
