These games are of enormous benefit to him in his career.
Most young central defenders initially start playing full back as they build up a level of experience at the highest level.
Every game he plays gets him a step closer to the day he will be able to start in his natural position.

Maybe we should just go out and get a Lars Jacobsen type player instead of giving our youth a chance (which have not let us down). Even have a word with Lucas Neil, grab james McFadden as a number 10 because we lost out on yarmolenko.

I understand some are nervous about Galloway and browning with the new guy mori, but honestly I am proud of the lads contribution, also how well Jagielka has kept it together as the mentor. Just remember every player starts out as inexperienced, I am more confident now that we have seen the 3 lads get a decent run out.

Understandable really, we essentially start 1-0 down

Did well yesterday out of position. It may take him a few more games there to become more comfortable, as the same happened with Galloway. Galloway is starting to look like a more natural full back than I think Browning will, but he still put in a good performance.

We could really do with Coleman back in though as Browning is more like Hibbert in that he prefers defending. We need attacking full backs in order to provide more chances. That's not criticsing Browning though, or even Hibbert, as you need those players to do a job when injuries occur.

With Coleman and Baines in yesterday, I think we would have battered them. They got out of jail there.

Let me say for the fifth or sixth time that I'm not saying Browning is a bad player. I'm saying we can't afford to have that kind of performance from our right back if we want to consistently win matches. Browning looked like a central defender at right back, which is no shade on him, because that's what he is. I don't even see any reason to think he couldn't develop into a decent right back at some point -- it took a few matches before it seemed to click for Galloway, but now he's doing really well and Browning seems like a similar kind of player. But looking purely at yesterday's match, I think right back was the single biggest reason that we drew the match instead of winning. Is that really that controversial?
I think you have a point, but I think what is controversial is how you have decided it is "the single biggest reason". I definitely agree that it was a factor, but I wouldn't say it was unaffordable to have a defensive-minded right back in a team that wants to win. I'd argue that you could point to the fact that we couldn't maintain possession when we were in the attack as the single biggest reason we didn't win. Yesterday was the worst we have been at keeping possession all season, understandable because everybody wants to win a derby and so they get the ball up quick. While I think a more attacking right-back would have helped I don't think it had as a big an impact on the match as you seem to.

Look, we haven't won a derby match in a really long time, and we really should have today. We didn't, and I'm not happy about it. In my opinion, the biggest reason we didn't win is that we didn't get a very good performance from our right back. So, yeah, I'm not happy about how Browning played today. That doesn't mean I think he's a bad player or a bad person or that he needs to be replaced or anything like that, but I don't see any reason to be happy about how he played today.
Not sure how you can say this since their goal didn't come from his mistake. Weird comment since he was solid all game, despite not being Coleman in attack.

"The single biggest reason we drew the match"?? What a load of garbage! Did you not notice Mignolet make 2/3 really good saves meanwhile Howard for the second games running decides he ain't going to move off his line to catch or even punch a ball from a corner? Browning, along with Galloway has done really well recently ,alright he isn't Seamus but not many are!

Some of the criticism of Browning is far too harsh (one particular post). He is a defensive full back who has all the right attributes and is holding his own against some very strong teams.

We do miss Coleman and his attacking threat though. These games will be invaluable for Browning in his development. I think the biggest thing now for Browning is the mental side of the game. He can be an absolute machine, with his physique and power. He has to caste off those mental doubts though and really go for it. Every game he gets and does ok in will help that process.
