Here is a study on the subject, mate.

Also, have you had a look at the below. It will be a handy resource and point of advise if you need a chat with those involved in the area.

Cheers mate.

Been type 2 for some time, being in a few groups it's clear there isn't a one size fits all approach so you have to 'shop around'. You'll co.e across terms like Keto and FODMAP and all kinds that may work, may not.
With all this stuff, keep a food diary, note what makes you feel heavy and sleepy, what gives you energy etc.
Good to look up quick fixes for highs, water, exercise all reduce sugars but overdoing it can go too low.
Took me a while to get on to the fact I was sensitive to fructose which would make me spike and crash.
I'm on loads of meds and have good control at the moment.
It's good to have supportive medical around you instead of being lashed on all kinds of stuff like a guinea pig which imho has interfered with any personal efforts.
You'll get there ;)

Cheers mate. The bonus is if there is one is that I’ve got no choice but to lose a bit of weight now.

Am type 1 diabetic, so obviously different to type 2, but my dad and aunt had Type 2 and the used a change in food and more exercise and never needed medicine thankfully :-) You will need to find a formula that suits you as you'll get hundreds of people telling you to do x, y and z that may not work out for you :-(

I stabilised my glucose levels by changing from 3 big meals a day to 5 smaller ones as made it easier to keep levels balanced, although type 1. Everyone has given you some great advice so look at the ideas and see what works for you!
Cut out sweet food, even sugary fruits like grapes :-) Exercise very important so rather than say taking the car for what would be a 20 minute walk do the walk!
Only eat wholemeal bread and avoid white breads! For dinners if before you ate 5 potatoes, cut to é or 3 but double the veg content so you dont feel hungry !
Grill foods and not fry them! My diabetic nurse suggested to me to eat a half a tomatoe if feeling hungry as it fills you up and cuts the urge to eat ;-)
Booze avoid cider as way too sugary and say if you have a spirit with a mixer, get a diet drink rather then the sugar version or the juice!
If you've an urge for sweet things, eat a piece or two of plain dark chocolate, as lower in sugars than milk chocolate and the higher the cacao level the better

As Sassy Colombian said a glucose monitor would be great to get as you can keep an eye of the reactions of foods you eat to your levels as sauces etc are laced with sugars !

It can be a massive shock when the doctor said you need to cut out x, y and z and everthing you eat etc but you'll sort it out :-) Sort out the diet and add some more sport to your day and you'll be sorted ;-)

Got told 5 weeks ago that I've got type 2 diabetes, I was 61 on the score chart, since then I've cut out the chocolate (god that's been hard!) been on a low carbs diet, cut down on the booze :( had another blood test because the doctor has said they have to confirm it , I'm trying my best because I want to try and lower it naturally than go on medication. Has anyone else successfully done it without medication and who could help with something nice to eat!

I highly recommend scheduling with a dietitian (actual trained medical/health professional).
A good dietitian can help you develop an eating plan that is right for you and that you can live with! You don't have to cut out foods you love forever.

Consider briefs walks (~20 minutes) about 30 minutes after a meal. Physical activity decreases insulin resistance and will lower the natural rise in blood glucose that occurs after meals.

Diabetes isn't ever really reversed per se...we just call it diet controlled diabetes.

I understand not wanting medication, but its not the worst thing if needed. Often at diagnosis some medication is needed, but as you make lifestyle changes, the medication can be tapered down or stopped completely.

Educating patients about diabetes is a big part of what I do so happy to answer any questions.

All that said.... This is one of those UK/US differences in healthcare that always grabs my attention. What is the score chart? Is it risk calculation?
I was 61 on the score chart,

My sister controls it by diet - but Vegan no dairy.

My Mum does too (at 94) by a lot of veg and moderation in all things. Does watch her blood pressure, but that is maybe to be expected at 94.

Its a shock, but it doesn't have to knock you right back.

Live long and prosper.....

cinnamon is really good at controlling your blood sugar levels. It stops spikes in your blood sugar level so it’s good to have with some porridge for your breakfast for example. It won’t reverse the effects but it will maintain a more balanced blood sugar level and the spikes cause you to snack so it can help you cut out snacking if that’s something you struggle with mate. Good luck

All the best to you Lou

Thinking of you

I'm at risk of diabetes because a family member had it so I'm always dead nervy about it if I ever get something that could be considered a potential symptom

I actually got tested for it last summer and everything was normal, but it's still something I constantly worry about

Good luck with your weight loss goal. I'm sure you can do it. Always happy to gas you up if you're feeling low

Cheers Mikey. It was a big wake up call for a lifestyle change mate. It's a killer cutting out the chocolate because I'm a massive chocoholic lol the good thing is I can have a couple of pieces of dark 85% cocoa chocolate, found one that has vanilla extract so it's not bitter. I've already lost 8 pounds in weight up to now so I'm in the zone now to keep going.
