Got told 5 weeks ago that I've got type 2 diabetes, I was 61 on the score chart, since then I've cut out the chocolate (god that's been hard!) been on a low carbs diet, cut down on the booze :( had another blood test because the doctor has said they have to confirm it , I'm trying my best because I want to try and lower it naturally than go on medication. Has anyone else successfully done it without medication and who could help with something nice to eat!
It's a PIA I lost two stone kept of medication for five years forget the bullcrap of it being reversible, the are many theories, books etc - but if your pancreas is damaged you have to alter your life style - a guy I know claimed he had reversed diabetes grade ,2 - he looked very ill to me .....

You need two blood & urine checks per year at your GPs to make sure you can individualary control it Exercise helps as you burn sugar - remember high carbohydrates & achohol turn into sugar ..,

It's just now you have to restyle your life as different habits & outlooks.....

Remember many people are unaware they are grade 2 diabetic - your lifestyle changes will help your heart & other organs to live longer - the main organs you have to protect are your kidneys.....

I went on a low carb diet right after coming out of the doctors mate, I walk between 5 and 8 miles a day now, have lost a load of weight.

The funny thing is a friend of my missus' is a health freak, has ate well and exercised all her life yet she had a check up at the doctors (she's 54) turns out she has kidney problems, her cholesterol was 6.9 and she was pre high blood pressure.

You have to be careful - my advice is don't panic as you can make yourself ill - by all means cut back exercise but do it gradually at a sensible pace - finest thing I just discovered is drink at least 2 litres of still spring water daily - I just had the best blood results in years ..'..you have to enjoy your life it's just about the correct habits which will become the norm .....

If you do this & avoid stress you will stay off medication for a very long time as I stated it people who claim to reverse it can make themselves ill & life can become a drudgery..,.

Just do it in a sensible relaxed way - no bull in a china shop methods to control it must be sensible on the methods you can do daily without not being consistent in your lifestyle...

I can't recall if I posted this yet but I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 24 years ago, in my mid thirties. Seemed an odd age and with no family history. I drank and ate a lot in my youth and was probably in pretty bad shape although I played alehouse league and 5 a side regularly. A friend in medicine told me to lose 10lb and I'd be ok. I did, gave up alcohol, and things stabilised. Over the years I did not try to reverse the situation but kept adding meds and eventually about 7 years ago started on insulin which I am still on. About a year ago the doctors said its now become Type1 diabetes as I am no longer producing my own insulin (I wonder if its because I have been injecting it for so long).
So recently I decided to lose a bit more weight and go to a whole food vegan diet. I was a veggie largely before so its not so drastic. The results have been remarkable and I have cut my insulin dosage in half and dropped another 10lbs.
I do find it difficult to energise for exercise but that can be overcome.
I would reccomend 2 books "reversing diabetes" and "How not to die", both put me on a good track!
My advice - act now! dont wait and try to just manage things like I did.
Good luck!!

dont want to discuss diet because everybody is an expert but
good quality sleep 7/8 hours and minimal stress are vital for good health!
just been reading wim hof s book (the iceman),some of that cold therapy stuff is eye opening.

Love the results @LouReedwalkonthewildside .. didn’t have diabetes but became overweight and then sugar was high.. and my dad had it… so got into keto and the fast and stuck it out.. besides the weight loss my blood sugar level went to perfect and I never had those highs and lows you get from carbs and sugars….

I have no doubt this is a natural remedy that works.. keep at it!!! ;)

From my somewhat good research on this topic, I dont think its the carbs that cause or sustain Type 2 diabetes, its the Sat fats. The carbs can't get into your cells because of the sat fats.
So if you do keto then yes your sugar levels drop but your not actually reversing your condition, you are making it worse to some extent. People who stop keto have huge issues.
Its a bit like if every time you drove you crashed the car. Not driving + no crashes, but really driving lessons would be a better fix!
Just my opinion - please research this for yourself!!

I was diagnosed as Type 2 a year and a bit after starting a health kick, and after losing 6.5 stone (almost 2 of which turned out to be severe dehydration!).

Luckily for me I had already developed the good habits needed to control and hopefully one day reverse it.

I can only offer my own opinion and it’s the same as for those looking to lose weight (specifically fat) in general: it’s not a race. Whatever the underlying reasons for the illness, they didn’t appear overnight and so nor will the cure. Be consistent, stay in a calorie deficit and exercise as much as you’re able to.

The difference in my control on the days I workout vs when I don’t is night and day. My insulin requirements are minimal and my readings are bang in range all day.

My eldest boy is Type 1 and I’m involved with our local diabetes charity. I’m by no means an expert but I know a bit, so feel free to drop me a line if you’re ever struggling and/or need advice.

Best of luck @LouReedwalkonthewildside

I wasn’t researching diabetes so in this regard it’s mostly anecdotal, but I did a fair amount of research on the carbs v fats v protein and how fat generates, sugar levels and insulin spike.. in fact I didn’t specifically do Keto… just realised that’s where I landed . For me I chose a path I felt I could successfully maintain. So is it the right path for everyone ? Maybe not, but it worked for me and for many people I know that have done it.

Real meal revolution by Professor Tim Noakes. Certainly knows a lot more than I ever will.
