USMNT

The state of CONCACAF besides the US and Mexico is pretty bad. The only team (aside from the US of course) that looks like it’s getting better is Canada. Jamaica has a bunch of semi washed-up ringers from the Championship. The Central American teams look like they’re in decline/transition.

Also going to the Octagonal will help the top teams get through, more games against teams they should dominate to stockpile points. I don’t think the USMNT will have any problems qualifying this time around.

Actually Jamaica is improving I believe. Leon Bailey is a pretty solid player for leverkusen will be interesting to see how he does at Villa.

What do you guys think of this Hoppe guy? I knew nothing of him before the tournament. He plays a little chippy with an edge at times, which I like for American players. We need that in concacaf, way too much [Poor language removed] gets pulled by these teams where you need guys who aren't gonna take anything. McKennie has really grown into that. Anyways, he also looks like he has a decent right foot. Some of those shots come off pretty nice with the dips and movement.

I thought he was older, but he's only 20,and was apparently at the Barca youth academy before Schalke? Did I misunderstand what I read? He's totally flown under my radar.

The rest of the team, meh. Maybe the guy who scored the goal has some potential in the back, but him and Canon are liable for some really really bad mistakes at times.

I lost 250 bucks I put on Mexico. I thought after the nations league loss, in Vegas against the US borderline B/C team they'd come out and embarrass them.... but Mexico looked very unimpressive through out the tournament. If they're as good as their players, federation, and fans... the awful fans think, they should have won every game at least 3-0 in that tournament. Maybe a Costa Rica or a Honduras give them a lil bit of an issues, but every other team should have been obliterated by that team the way they are talked about... and I loved it, they're not that good.

Remember when we were all pissed off Joe Corona chose mexico lol.. what a bum. And I don't mean on here, I wasn't a member here yet but I remember it was a big thing in US soccer losing him and a couple other dual nationals to mexico...

They can keep the mexican-americans as far as I'm concerned. Our players of European, African, and Caribbean ancestry have proven to be way better players in this generation.

But anyways, that was a long way of saying, yes Concacaf is bad. I actually think in 10-15 years if Mexico doesn't correct things in that country, not letting players go overseas and develop properly, Canada is going to over take them. They've really in my opinion copied the kind of blueprint that Klinnsmann recently laid out (I know we've always relied on dual nationals to an extent and people born over seas, but he brought it to the forefront and I loved it), that team is full of immigrants. I think that's what you gotta do to build a national team if you are not from a football mad country.

I actually liked to look of El Salvador.

He's still really raw and behind several young attackers in the depth chart, but could be a factor in the next WC cycle.

I thought he was older, but he's only 20,and was apparently at the Barca youth academy before Schalke? Did I misunderstand what I read? He's totally flown under my radar. He played at Barca's American Academy in Arizona, which is just a for profit academy which charges $75K/year for teenagers which dreams of playing professionally. Caden Clark also played there.

The rest of the team, meh. Maybe the guy who scored the goal has some potential in the back, but him and Canon are liable for some really really bad mistakes at times. Robinson, Acosta and Turner were immense this tournament. I expect all three to get serious minutes in World Cup qualifiers and be playing in Europe next year.

Joe Corona has 23 caps for the United States. I believe you're thinking of Jonathan Gonzalez, who switched to Mexico 3-4 years ago as a 19-20 year old and hasn't gotten many opportunities.

They can keep the mexican-americans as far as I'm concerned. Our players of European, African, and Caribbean ancestry have proven to be way better players in this generation. Get this garbage out of here. We should welcome every eligible player who wants to play for us with open arms.

A few thoughts .... see above (in red)

Canada has been a team "just ready to turn the corner for about 25 years now", no.

Mexico is a@# when they have the bulk of possession and they are traditionally terrible at defending free kicks, the US always anniliates them on free kicks. Its a counterattacking team stuck in a confederation where they can't counter or even practice counters. Mexico always looks their worst against awful teams.

Gold cup used to be a nice snack when it was every 4 years and even though CONCACAF is way way down still would have been fun. Clubs cared about the Gold Cup back when it was set in the midpoint of the WC. Its just a glorified training session for teams now.

Canada are a bit different this time around. Davies and David are both young and absolute class. Buchanan is another young talent and will be in Europe within a year. They have some actual pieces to build around.
