VAR

This is a fair point, but these ones are a matter of fact. The ball either crossed the line or it didn’t.

Fouls or handballs are often so subjective that 2 people sat next to each will have a different opinion of it, even with 10 video replays.

Can live with technology for goal line decisions, and maybe for offside (if they get the decisions much quicker).

As someone said above, this is about more than just always getting the right decision, it’s a live sport with 40,000 (soon to be 52,000) paying to watch. If that experience is diminished so much, the trade off is too much, IMO.

Absolutely.

It is the “subjective” aspect of VAR that needs nailing down. I’d rather that they keep working on it rather than completely scrapping it in its infancy.

It was always the 'clear and obvious' bit that irked me. I am not sure whether 'clear and obvious error' is in the rules, but if not, it should be. Ergo, if it takes more than 10-20s or so to spot the error, then it isn't a clear and obvious error. Replaying something 5 or ten times means the 'error' was not obvious. Drawing lines across a screen is plopsies as well, either the forward is clearly offside, from the camera angle, or he isn't. Change the rules or wording of the rules if needs be. Follow this up with genuine robust rules for duping the ref, so not just the Niasse's of this world get banned, and it would be far, far better. I won't be holding my breath like.

I depsise this version of VAR - it’s allowing legalised match fixing and making on field officials actually worse.

Ifab need to get the laws sorted to help stamp out this interpretation crap. Clear them up, make them idiot proof and then PGMOL and VAR lose any room to balls things up.

Var is a good idea horrendously implemented and needs to be made better before they scrap it.

If they can’t improve it, then lash it in the bin and we can just have new semi automated off sides along with the bad old bent officials we used to have, that would be bette than what we have got now.

Nothing wrong with var, the rules need absolute clarity for everyone, if the referees can't agree on what's a foul then scrap fouls and penalties, have a punch up until someone scores.

I’m only interested in automated VAR.

Give me Hawkeye-fast automated offsides and be done with the rest of it.

I don’t even think humans should be judging offside on the pitch. You literally have to look at two things at the exact same moment. It’s BS, assistant referees have to go on what they see out of the corner of their eye one way or another.

I just don’t think the subjective aspect of VAR can be nailed down, almost by definition. And I’m not sure it should be. Isn’t part of the fun in footy, the disagreements over that grey area?

Interesting spread of views across the league’s fans.

Massive range across the league, and around a third of clubs are split broadly down the middle in their own fan base.

I've always thought linos got a lot more right than wrong. They had the occasional howler like the Terry equaliser but on the whole they were better Pre VAR

They're pretty good at it though to be fair. I don't mind the odd marginal call being wrong myself I can live with that in fact I'd much rather that than being pulled up for being a millimetre offside that isn't really the point of the offside law as far as i'm concerned.

I wonder if fans would like a system in tennis or cricket where each club gets 3 VAR reviews per game?

The referee would make all on field decisions, and if a manager is unhappy with a particular call he can send it to VAR for a review. That would limit VAR to only six interactions per match. In addition, VAR would still also rule out goals that were offside as per its original remit.

It would certainly cut down VAR’s involvement within the game.
