Streaming really is amazing tbh, imagine in the 80s and 90s being able to listen to any song or album, it just has made things a bit soulless and i always end up putting on an artists top tracks instead of albums...a real careful what you wish for situation
It's amazing for the consumer but long run it kills music. Reality is if you want people to make good music like the songs we all love of the past then they need to get paid for it. If you're having to go work 9-5 Mon-Fri there's not much energy or incentive left to create. Spotify etc paying 0.006p per play is ridiculous.

Qobuz pays the most, I believe. I still do whole albums though and never "best tracks". However, I wish there was an option to skip tracks you really don't like.

If I had a button I could press that would erase the entirety of recorded music, I'd be sorely tempted to press it. Musicians might be valued properly then.

I love reckless just around the corner. Got so much jazz and punk in there.

There used to be a record exchange on that road as well (Brewers Street) but it sadly went to become a hotel.

Sister Ray sometimes has good stuff just opposite reckless.

This thread has cheered me up no end. Struggling with back problems so a but immobile and feeling sorry for myself but loving reading about all you record nerds.

Nice one mate, hope you're on the mend. Yeah, I go to London usually once a month with work and if I get the opportunity I'll usually carve out a bit of time for myself and crate digging in Soho is often on the cards.
You've got Phonica round the corner as well, that's great for electronic stuff.

Do you have any other record stores you frequent in london?

I like Flashback records in Islington and Brick Lane.

Yes, the therapeutic value of vinyl (sourcing, shopping for, and playing it) is very underrated.

It's good that Soho still has a few decent places, but I remember less than 20 years back and you couldn't move for record shops on Berwick St. Obviously the way of the world has changed a lot, but the food/fruit & veg market down the bottom of the street was always good for the odd bargain, too - now it's all £18 gourmet burger stands.

Oh yeah, it's a different world from when I lived there in the mid 90s, Soho was still pretty edgy back then.

Honest Jon's is another one I like. I keep meaning to get up to Camden to see what's there these days.

Camden has nothing apart from a little shop in the market area and All Ages records still survives but does not have the best reputation with punks since the owner went on a rant about people striking. Its so sad how many stores have gone in london.

New York, Barcelona and Berlin are probably my two favourite places to shop for records.

Peckham has a couple of spots.

Absolutely and it’s killed nightclubs I used to go to see DJs because I’d only hear certain tracks at their gigs, music doesn’t pay it’s the gigs/ tours that pay, I know some artists have stopped using Spotify and put their stuff on bandcamp
