An original 3 x LP, numbered limited edition from 1996 sold in Discogs for £509.68 15 hours ago.
I could have bought this when it came out but instead bough the sonic youth album as money was tight in those days. It was a poor choice musically and as economically.

I got a repress a few years ago which is nice but it’s not as nice. A shame I’ll never be rich enough to own an original one.

The kaleidoscope thing is brilliant. If someone asks why I collect vinyl it’s a record that I usually pull out to show. But you’re right, it’s the record I always think of also for thinnest vinyl, it’s thinner than a crisp packets!
Sonic Boom has done some brilliant sleeves. The oil filled first Spectrum LP is a mad one, too. His most recent solo ones have been lovely embossed and foiled creations. Must cost a bomb to do.

Of memory serves these LPs are nothing to do with the BBC.

They were the brainchild of some shyster band like the Barron Knights who noticed that that the BBC hadn’t copyrighted the TOTP name and started producing these compos with their ersatz cover versions on.
"In his 2022 memoir Good Pop, Bad Pop, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker described the series as an example of "bad pop": "Usually, I avoided these records like the plague when I came across them at jumble sales... The original idea behind these albums must have been, 'It's all worthless trash anyway so the kids won't be able to tell the difference.' But of course we could."

Shyster is the word, inauthentic replicas boxed off under the totp tag. Session musicians involved include Tina Charles and Reg Dwight. A very sordid chapter.

Kept session musicians and singers in a job though

A quick pic of my latest haul (Dawn of Ouroboros, Curse of Cain, Paakallo, Her Shadow). The bottom two are from Svart Records, an interesting label I've had on my radar for a little while. Thought I'd timed the delivery so they'd come when my wife was out, but sadly 'twas not to be.
