yes! My kind of thread.

Records are everything. I’ve got close to 700 and I’m obsessed. Mostly punk and hardcore but growing jazz collection and hip hop.

I went crazy in lockdown because I had no everton to waste my money on.

The problem with a lot of hardcore though, assuming you mean 80 US hardcore, is the quality must be awful. I've had/heard some and they sound like they will break your system

I have 625. All catalogued on discogs.com, but only a bit of is graded. A modest collection, really. All sorts in there.

I just wanted to find the ones I bought in the 70's/80's before I moved onto CD's, about half are badly scratched and jump or stick so go straight in bin but for a couple of quid it's worth the risk
Ah the eye test. Been there, always give the side you care about a thorough light glare once over. If you notice a bit of blemish, mention it and run the price down.
I'd never do the following with a charity shop.
Check the side you want is alright, then 'find' some scratch n scuff on the side you dont and mention that, get a quid or two off that way ;)

This is one of the best things I've ever spent money on. I used to DJ at free parties and had records that were so grimy the needle wouldn't stay in the groove, and this made them playable out again*. It can't work miracles and it wasn't cheap, but if I ever come to sell my records it will have paid for itself several times over.

*not that I play out anymore. And on the rare occasion I do, it's reggae and not techno.
