Violence at the games

“Two hundred and fifty Russian fans repulsed an attack by several thousand English and forced them to flee,” state news service Vesti reported.

“English fans started the fight by attacking our fans, but 250 Russians from different corners of our country did not flinch and repulsed the attack of the heavily drunken islanders.”

The way that reads is that they are actually proud of their hoolies, particularly like the fact that they have played up the National unity of their hooligan fans !

They are!

It's all going to be ok, Hodgy has said to the lads to keep out of trouble or they'll get disqualified. Only two more games and they'll be home anyway.

it sounds like there is plenty of action going on out there all over the place, allowing the rags (from every country) to choose whichever story they want to portray. There's plenty of material to show every nations thugs as victims, perpetrators or not even involved at all, (the RS defence, its every one else not us).
Newspapers arent there to tell the truth, they tell a story, its up to the reader to infer the 'truth'.

As a side note, Mrs S has a mate whose brother is out there, claiming he isnt involved. There are pics in the papers/net of him bare topped bottle in hand, next to a lid chucking a bottle. Nobs.

Great Job UEFA, ban England and Russia. The French have also been heavily involved, lets ban them too.
Imagine the uproar when UEFA ban the French from their own tournament....

Ohh wait that will never happen. Whilst the English have a reputation, does it give the Russian and French hooligans the right to ambush innocent English and other nations such as the Irish and Welsh ?

As always the media want to tarnish the reputation of the majority based on the actions of a minority.

A top football official in Moscow has praised the Russian fans involved in violenceover the weekend in Marseille, saying they had defended their country’s honour and should be forgiven.

“I don’t see anything wrong with the fans fighting,” Igor Lebedev wrote on Twitter. “Quite the opposite, well done lads, keep it up!”

Lebedev, who sits on the executive committee of the Russian football union, is an MP from the nationalist Liberal Democratic party and the deputy chairman of the Russian parliament. “I don’t understand those politicians and officials who are criticising our fans. We should defend them, and then we can sort it out when they come home,” Lebedev wrote in a series of tweets. “What happened in Marseille and in other French towns is not the fault of fans, but about the inability of police to organise this kind of event properly.”

Calls to his office went unanswered on Monday, but the Twitter account is believed to be genuine and the sentiments were echoed in comments given to the news website life.ru.

“In nine out of 10 cases, football fans go to games to fight, and that’s normal. The lads defended the honour of their country and did not let English fans desecrate our motherland. We should forgive and understand our fans,” Lebedev told the news agency.

And this lot are hosting the world cup!

There is a crowdfunding/justgiving page for the 51 yr old Pompey fella 'Pepe' that got battered with iron bars. Expected to live but likely to have brain damage. Raised about £7k already. Football rivalry put aside.

Can find the link if anyone wants it.
