Because the RS publically made it known that he wanted to play for them and them alone. It's common knowledge both Chelsea and City were interested in signing him. Still might be. In fact Chelsea were favourites to sign him a few month ago.


And I'm not concerned about his defending ability. There is nothing to be concerned about. He's one of the best defenders in the prem. I'm just not sad enough to claim he's crap just because he's been linked with that lot.

It's beyond deluded to think a player would hold a strong preference to play for liverpool over city or Chelsea.

The dross they get shut off - it will pay for Robertson, Solanke and Salah, 'with a bit left over to maybe go towards a big money signing - and MAYBE their owners would stump up 50-60m over what they brought in (not that they have ever shown a willingness to do so before ofc)
