It’s a good question, but my guess is not everything is as clear cut as it appears.
He might have taken the position he was instructed to, he was marking someone after all. If we do zonal (which apparently we do) maybe Myko was doing his job / position and McNeil was a floater and should have been picking up anyone outside of the ‘zones’.
Could simply be a case of Myko dropping a proverbial ‘b’ but the whole set up from set pieces looks a bit off for every corner.
Yep , and after the first goal, youd have thought the defence would have got their act together.

League two I think he would start for all but the very top teams. League one I’d see him as 50/50.

Will be outclassed when we are in the championship next season
👍
How did it end up on their 2nd goal that Mykolenko was marking a man yet THEIR MAIN STRIKER was behind him, unmarked and Mykolenko completely unaware of that.
Spot on.

Because we're back to Martinez levels of defending set pieces - no one knows what they're doing.

When we have a manager that can setup:

A defence
A set piece strategy
Defensive midfield

Then i think we can judge individual errors.

The one player we should all be slating isnt Mykolenko it is Young who has been dog dirt but starts every game

Something tells me Myko, Patterson, and dare I say even Young would look much better under a competent manager.
It must be a nightmare for full backs to play in this silly narrow system where no one knows what is he doing, especially against wide playing opponents.
I think both the players being bad and Dyche being incompetent are true. Myko left a man wide open 3 times in 2 league games. That is not on the manager. The player is actually not good enough. Dyche allowing it to happen though is a problem. The fact that he hasn’t addressed it or sacked Myko means he is responsible for the goals we have conceded. We knew the risk before we got into this game. Young should just flat out not be starting.

How many players and managers have we said this about in the last few years though and how many has it turned out to be true? A lot and not a lot. Dyche isn’t a good manager but they aren’t good players either we don’t have to pick sides both things are true.

We could have put out a team with at minimum 9+ mid table level players

Pickford
Patterson
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
Mykolenko
Garner
Onana
McNeil
Danjuma
Harrison
DCL

That group of players is not "bad" or "not good enough", its a mid table team.

Mykolenko and Patterson are also being misused in the terrible system, whether thats being played narrow or in the useless set piece setup.

Just name 9 of them mid table players please. System may be terrible but so are mykolenko and Patterson, Patterson hasn’t looked as bad in his last 2 appearances but overall been pretty crap.

I will say for both of them, there is the potential for upside, neither are the finished article and both have at least matched the output of young lets give them consistent game time and maybe they step up.
