….I like the look of him.

Bit concerned the owner is still bringing in players. it seems like this has nothing to do with Benitez, so he’s not in total control.
Obviously Benitez is the one who wants him. Does he look like a manager who will accept signings he doesn't want or decisions made for him?

Apart from Zat no one's ever heard of him but as an young international with CL experience he has good credentials.

The fee seems high so I can only assume that he's Digne's replacement and we are getting top dollar for him.

Doesn't make sense otherwise.
I worry about CL credentials being a major deciding factor for an relativity unknown …. A certain Cenk Tosun springs to mind ….

Agree 100%. Guess we are going to cut the Dignes wage bill and sell him for a profit. If he is a good player then its a decent trade.

I think it looks more that he has requested a type of player and that request is being fulfilled by Moshiri helped by his friend Usmanov. We already know Moshiri freely interfered in transfers despite the presence of Brands, I don’t think that will change, it is his club after all and if he wants to indulge his desire to be DoF he can.
Moreover considering the limiting financial constraints we are operating under, it makes sense to recruit players from clubs where Usmanov can exert his influence to ensure the fiscal aspect can be structured in our favour.
Ultimately Moshiri and Usmanov are acting as DoF.

….like those who have gone before, he can’t stop the owner doing his own thing.

Without being too sure of the inner workings of the transfer, I'm fairly confident to say Benitez do like the player and @Eggsyblueskin version seems closer to the truth. I think he's on Benitez's shortlist and given the FFP constraints, the owners decided that Mykolenko is the most attainable target.

I think Moshiri certainly did interfere with transfers in the past but I feel that he did not do so under CA and probably won't under RB.

I think that is why he brought in managers of their pedigree...so that he could step back from making the mistakes he made.

When you look at the players signed under CA there is little doubt that they were picked by Ancellotti... certainly James and Allan. I think Doucoure should be credited to Brands.

The signings of Gray and Townsend were certainly the choice of RB.

Moshiri will continue to interfere ,the man is an absolute liability.
There is no doubt in my mind that Mykolenko is a combination of Moshiri with the help of Usmanov fulfilling the coaches requirements with a man whose price they can influence.
Our inability to manoeuvre financially thanks to the woeful running of the club during the past 5years makes it unlikely that any coach can be given the free reign that some imagine.
