Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

He'd be perfect for just behind Lukaku when we play a two man midfield. Barkley has done fairly well in a slightly wider area too, so all three could play, leaving room for a more traditional wide player like Lookman etc.

The problem is he'd be perfect for 12 months tops, and would cost a ridiculous amount of money. Overall, I really would prefer us to look to build the side for the next five years, not one - and that means not bringing in a player who'd demand the attention that Rooney would in our plans.

2 year pay as you play deal with a seperate deal to do his coaching badges. Having a player of his stature in the game could be a deciding factor in attracting higher calibre players.

I'm fairly sure throwing the £150k+ a week he'd command in wages at those players instead would be more of an attraction.

If he came here he'd be eager to prove a lot of people wrong, I think he's gone stale at United and the move would reignite his desire.

I know his legs aren't what they were, but I think we could get a cracking season out of him, the issue for me would be that we'd be likely to give him a longer term deal in order to secure his services.
yep. If the club gave him a 2 year deal with option for a third, perfect. But we'll invariably give him a 6 year deal knowing us.

He's far from finished, maybe his United career is. His footballing brain is streets ahead, a move to his club will reignite his desire. Plus, the options it gives Ronky:

Midfield competing for 3 spots: Morgs, Gana, Davies, Besic, McCarthy, Barry. Not to mention youngsters like Walsh, Dowell etc

Then you'll have Barkley, Kev, Del (if he proves he can hack it), Bolassie, Lookman and potenially Rooney looking for 2 places behind Lukaku.

Bring him in and another striker to compete with Rom and it'll look a good, really good

Swear filter avoidance
Gutted if he ever ends up back here. He'd be top earner by a mile but nowhere near one of our best players. Defoe is miles better than Rooney - I reckon he'll start to drop off next season due to age - so would we throw 150k a week at Defoe in a year's time? No, obviously not. Barkley is making that spot behind Lukaku his own and will continue to improve. Do we want this knob head Rooney holding Ross back? Don't you dare sign Rooney, Everton, for flucks sake.

Ok, another angle.
'Rom, why haven't you signed this new deal'
'Because I'm sick of sharing my locker with Valencia and Kone'
'Fancy sharing it with Wayne Rooney'
'Where's the pen'.

Again though, I'm sure Rom would value £75k a week more in his pay packet than working with a 32 year old who hasn't been anywhere near his best for three years mate.

It's all about value for me. I don't think Rooney is value anymore. Yes, three years ago his brand recognition would have been a boon, but not now. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view of him), his lack of form makes him more akin to when we signed Gazza than United signing Ibrahimovic.

We all knew Rooney would peak early and fade badly, even when he was here at the age of 16. His body build and style of play pretty much dictated it. That's what has happened, and we shouldn't pay through the nose to see if he can have a renaissance somehow at Goodison for two years when there's little sign it will happen.

Fair does, we'll agree to differ. I'd agree with you on the wage thing though, I wouldn't want to be lobbing 150k plus his way. He needs to want to come here for less in my book.

Then you have the PR attraction. Rooney is still a big, big draw in world football, coupled with the end of the KitBag fiasco the merchandise on him could pay for the deal itself
That's the real draw i think. Last few seasons at Goodision, Englands all time record goalscorer and captain leading out The blues as they wave good bye to one of Englands grand old football grounds. Rooney No.9 shirts flying off the selves for a couple of years too. I do still think (or at least hold hope) that playing for us again will re-ignite his passion for the game and coupled with the WC next year give him the chance the end his career on a high.

:D stranger things have happened i guess, but frankly I cannot ever imagine Rooney as a coach.
