Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

Thanks mate. I had no idea that the purse strings had been pulled in tighter tbh. I knew about the 3 designated rule (FM) but it always confused the hell out of me (not hard). So are the days of Beckhams truly over then?

Not so much the purse strings tightening as a lack of return on investment. Those players can't come over and boss the league anymore, and some of them have been utter dross like Slippy and arguably Pirlo.

Rooney is a special case because he's still under contract. If he was on a free maybe someone would go for it, but I think the combination of fee + wage is too much for an MLS club to eat.

(PS to @MorgsGoat - our DPs are usually coming up from Central America and South America now. Our few non-crap footballers all play for the national team and they don't have to sign as DPs.)

He's not a Koeman player. Koeman wants mobile attacking players with pace who press and put a shift in defensively
Ronald Koeman on Wayne Rooney: "He still has two or three years in front of him to play at the highest level. What will happen at the end of the season, I do not know? In my opinion he’s one of the players who can make Everton stronger than they are now." Verbatim.

Where would you start him if he did sign?

I'd consider putting him in the side at the cost of Davies. Rooney supporting Rom. Barkley the most advanced of the midfield trio (Davies current spot). Lookman out on the other side (occupying Barkley's roaming role).

Would he be the back up striker we need to compete with Lukaku? No! He doesn't get enough goals.

Would he improve our squad which will be needed assuming we get European football - definitely!

People saying he hasn't had a good game in years haven't been watching. His passing range, vision and technique are still incredible. In a side with pace, power and movement around him he'll still be top notch for another couple of years.

Regarding wages. We'll be losing some big hitters off the books in the summer. Niasse, Kone, McGeady, Cleverly, Jagielka, Lennon must all be on £50,000+
