If Koeman didn't think he would improve the team he wouldn't sign him. Koeman is clearly not afraid to be ruthless in his persuit for pushing us forward. He may not always be right but so far he's signed Gana (our best player?), Schneiderlin (looks a great fit already), Lookman (a gem for future) and Bolasie (jury still out). That's a good success rate on young/prime players. The only outfield player he's signed who is older is Williams who has clearly improved us in the short term which is what I think he feels Rooney would do.

Koeman doesn't give a damn about being sentimental though, Jags was rightly dropped very quickly and Barry barely plays now because he signed better players!

Look, I'm not exactly thrilled by this but he'd be miles better than the Ginola/Gazza signings.

i hope thats the case or they're playing a game. anyone with a set of eyes and access to any of rooneys stats would know hes completely done as a top half player.

Was surprised to see he has the same number of assists as Barkley and Coutinho despite playing much less minutes.

A better comparison would be Gareth Barry who was older than Rooney is now when we signed him

and has turned out to be a great signing, stabilising our midfield and now we've progressed to have the best midfield in decades. I think some fans need to understand we're not going to turn into city overnight and end up with david silvas and sergio agueros next season. It'll be a progression, but with european football after moshiri's first full season and attracting a star like rooney (who is a much bigger name than robinho), we may get that progression a lot quicker. We have a much better base to start with anyway.

Rooney will turn 32 just after the start of next season. And he is only in the England squad on reputation, not on form. In fact, he has been a hindrance to England for the last year or two while they’ve struggled to accommodate him.

With his body type, and with being a first team PL player at 16, he was always going to peak early.

Obviously it wouldn't be a signing in the Gazza/Ginola league, but he IS past it.
