If Koeman didn't think he would improve the team he wouldn't sign him. Koeman is clearly not afraid to be ruthless in his persuit for pushing us forward. He may not always be right but so far he's signed Gana (our best player?), Schneiderlin (looks a great fit already), Lookman (a gem for future) and Bolasie (jury still out). That's a good success rate on young/prime players. The only outfield player he's signed who is older is Williams who has clearly improved us in the short term which is what I think he feels Rooney would do.
Koeman doesn't give a damn about being sentimental though, Jags was rightly dropped very quickly and Barry barely plays now because he signed better players!
