Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

I would genuinely die of excitement seeing him coming on off the bench for his debut.

Needs to get that number 18 shirt off Barry.

The issue with that article is that signing Rooney isnt purely based on the "romantic narrative" of rooney coming "home" from the club. Koeman and Walsh both think he would improve the squad

It's just an opinion piece mate, and a lot will feel he doesn't improve the squad/team, others will disagree, for a whilst I've been on the fence about it, it's down to is his decline as a player being made to look more severe due to him wanting out and not having the desire that a return to us may spark again, if for just one season he can roll back the clock then he would improve us massively, but there's always the chance that he has just hit the wall as a player and no desire or renewed motivation can do anything about it.

There's been a few cases recently of the right move reinvigorating a player whose been written off as finished, falcao this season and Torres going home to athletico are two examples.

Is it? Unless he is going to pay these players out of his own pocket and use his marketing potential to get us free entry into the champions league I don't see what difference it will make especially to players from abroad.

Because in simple terms mate, like it or not, Rooney is a huge name in football still, we spent a summer trying to get a marquee signing in, as most acknowledge that the first is the most difficult, once one arrives it becomes easier, Rooney would attract 'some' players who otherwise may choose a different option, hell Lukaku himself has said several times about how much he'd like to play alongside him.

it could end up costing them their jobs if they both actually really thought that.

If we sign him it will be great for shirt sales but I am not overly fussed if he ends up elsewhere. Obviously he has been a great player but those days are behind him and i'd hate him to come here and be like Ginola, Gascoigne and Hughes were when they were all clearly past it.
He couldn't be as bad as those 3, as they were finished (The first 2 mentioned were World Class). Rooney is still better than 7 or 8 of our
best 11 now. I genuinely think that he could be as explosive as Andy Gray was in his short spell with us. I also think that both Koeman
and Walsh are just sounding us out, as to whether we will ruin a comeback.

you must have been watching a different rooney for last 2 yrs to most people if you really think that.

I get the thought process behind it I am just not convinced that it quite works that way. I honestly think that footballers could care less who they play alongside as long as they are good. You may get the odd iconic player who has some sway but I don't think Rooney falls into that category.

i hope thats the case or they're playing a game. anyone with a set of eyes and access to any of rooneys stats would know hes completely done as a top half player.
Ah yes, i'm sure their whole plan was an elaborate ruse to popcorn everyone on sky for their own enjoyment :coffee:
Or they just think Rooney has a few decent years left.
Everyones entitled to their opinion of if Rooney signing would benefit us or not, just dont see how people can deny that Koeman and Walsh are geniunely interested

you actually believe managers tell the truth when they speak?!lol

No, not all the time. However if they do lie there is usually a purpose. Don't see what Koeman and Walsh have to gain in this situation by praising (falsly in your eyes) Rooney. I believe the interest is genuine

I was and still am of the opinion that Rooney is on the way down as a player.Just because he can't get into the Man United starting 15 (a team who are just one place ahead of us) shouldn't mean that he's good enough to get into our starting 15.But if Koeman wants him and think's he has something to offer to Everton then i will back his judgement.
