Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

We could potentially lose Kone, Niasse, Del, and Lennon from our attacking players in the summer and we're hopefully going to have more games to be played from European football. We're clearly going to need a number of new forward players - bringing Rooney in to add to our options would be a big positive for me.

Id say it was more because it was a testimonial and nobody was that bothered.

Other than him being 2 years older people will be running around and stuff in proper games.

If he needs motivating to play, regardless of the situation or the player then i don't want them anywhere near us.

When you've won everything there is to win at domestic level, paid a stupid amount of money week in week out regardless of performance, played in a silly number of postion's every other game, I'm sure there's many cases of players losing interest to perform at their peak, that need a move to reignite that motivation.

I'm not even that much of a fan of him, I just feel with a move back, he'll want to perform again and prove he still has it, and put 2 fingers up at all the questioning of him over the past few years.

He had a chance to to that at World Cups and European Championships.

I'd certainly be excited to see him playing for Everton again, even if he isn't the explosive specimen he was in his prime. I think it would be good for Everton commercially, would help to attract other players, he'd bring experience of winning (which we sorely need), leadership, and I also think he'd relish the chance to play for us again, and thereby raise his game.

He's not the player he was and would cost a small fortune, but I think the potential positives outweigh the negatives.

My memory isn't good enough to remember his performance at the last World Cup but the euros was a shambles all round. It was like none of the players were given any positions or shape to maintain. Rooney was playing CDM, CM, CAM, RM, RB, SS in most matches and the likes of Sturridge and Kane were drifting all over the pitch in no particular direction so I'm not surprised he was ineffective.

Or you could split Rooneys inflated wages between 2 or 3 better, younger, fitter attacking options?

As others have mentioned, Mata, Rashford and Martial would all be better signings for us than Rooney at this stage in time if we're buying from United

The big reason to sign Rooney is that it'd be a world recognised player whose name we could put on shirts and make some decent money, but he's not the sort of player we need starting for us every week

He's not coming to Everton to sit on a bench for less money than he's on right now

If he wants to go to Russia in 2018 as an England player, then he's going to have to play regularly, and do we want him playing regularly in place of the likes of Lukaku, Barkley, Lookman, Davies etc?

Great though it would be to see him wear the shirt again, he's probably going to want more money and minutes than we're prepared to offer him

If he's willing to take a substantial cut in his wages and be back up for Rom, then I'd happily have him here. If he wants a decent wedge and to be in the starting XI, then I'd have to seriously question that deal
The likes of Lookman and Davies will need to be managed over the next couple of seasons. This is where a player like Rooney comes in.
Can you really see the youngsters playing 50 games with no loss of form?

That's fine if the youngsters are the starters and Rooney is the man on the bench/the player who gets rotated in for them

My issue is that it would probably be the other way, and personally that's not the role I want Rooney in

Play them until they drop. If they cant hack it get new players in.

We are only burning them out before they go to one of the "big" clubs anyway. Use them whilst we can.

I'd like to think if Rooney was in before them then it was down to him earning it rather than Ronald picking him regardless.
If this was the case then I've no issues with our best 11 being on the pitch every week. Whether that includes Rooney playing or on the bench makes no difference to me.
