Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

I'm of the opinion we have 2 options: go for a player in their prime/with potential like Batshuyai, Tielemans etc. And go for the top 4 or sign Rooney and cement 7th.

Of course it could give Wayne a new lease of life and push us up the table, but I'm of the opinion we could find a better long term solution than Wayne, although part of me would be excited seeing him come back to us.

Ffs we can sign more than one player.

He was slightly younger but signing Andy Gray, who was viewed as past it, was one of the most astute signings we ever made. Rooney would obviously bring something to the team, but would also be fantastic for raising our profile and commercial sales. We could probably even get someone to sponsor him to pay his wages.....it's a no brainer....

Our problem is outside of Rom we have no 2nd regular scorer. Outside of the top 4 sides you look at the 3 clubs that have had big seasons and both have 2 or more players who can score 15-20 goals between them:

Liverpool- Suarez and Sturridge
Leicester- Vardy and Mahrez
Spurs- Kane and Eriksen/Alli combined.

Rooney isn't a goalscorer anymore and if he was to take lookmans place in the side we would need the team as a whole to contribute more goals- something we have shown to be unable to do outside of Rom for around 2/3 seasons now.

That is an excellent point and observation Pete.

been thinking about this .. and decided with Wayne we shouldnt worry about how much he costs.. is he bringing value? Thats not for us to decide.. its not our cash. We need to consider will he make the team better or bring something, and its a resounding yes. The teachings he could pass to Lookman and others would be invaluable. I also don't think he is past it. He might not be a prolific goalscorer but he could become one heck of a provider for Lukaku and is very much the creative player we being crying out for.

I'm not worried about Lookman or one of the other young pretenders.. they got time and Rooney will only make them better.

The one guy that might have to worry is Barkley but in fact I feel that Barkley and Rooney would be an amazing combination of power and guile.
