Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

I'll convince you mate

Our odds of actually winning another bloody trophy will vastly improve if we sign him. That should swing you 30% more in favour I reckon ;)

Any one got any better than Macca's view? I've gone from a No to a Yes on this because this club is bigger than any player, but when a player can make the club better, there's only one winner for me. If it happens, it does, I've mellowed because I know he's box office and I appreciate the value he can bring to the club. If it doesn't, there will be reasons why.

Despite my past reservations based on bringing back magic for nothing more than nostalgia, if the hunger from Rooney is there and there is some humility and understanding in respect of what we can ever pay, it's could work for both parties. However, probably surprised me that we have gone full pelt this week from our Senior Management on saying we'd love him back ...if that was another club for say a Rom or Ross we'd be fuming. More miles in this one yet. Let's see.

Yeah it's a bit of a different stance from the club, actually coming out and saying they want him. It's going to be an interesting summer and we'll see what he's about. No doubt he'll get offers from the mls/China for big bucks, or he can sit on the bench at utd picking up silly money. Hell have to take a substantial pay cut if he really wants to come back so it'll be interesting to see what he chooses. Surely the money side of it gets pretty meaningless when you're on 300k a week.

huge difference. Rooney has hardly played and Utd have made it perfectly clear they're open to him leaving.
Ross and Lukaku are 2 of our most important first team players and most of us hope they'll be vital parts of a bright future.
Don't think Utd fans are exactly clamouring for Rooney to be a starter.

I get your point mate. For me, there's two separate points in my post.

1. Do you think Rooney makes us better?
2. Should the club be so open about us wanting him?

My take is, on point 1 he does, but this depends on his desire, motivation and attitude plus how he may be remunerated - all conjecture I know. So a woolly answer on this!

On the second point, I was surprised we were so open in agreeing a return. I thought it wasn't like Everton. I get Rom and Ross are integral whilst Rooney may be deemed surplus at Utd, but my point is more I think we previously placed great public store on not publicly talking about players under contract elsewhere and deriding other clubs who have done it to us, whether City & Lescott, Chelsea via Terry for Stones etc. Double standards in my book, you can't bitch one day and do it yourself the other. Perhaps a sign of our new financial clout, not sure.

*WAS*

No amount of fire and desire can reverse the ageing process. He's been playing at full throttle in the most demanding league in the world since he was 16 years old, and he just can't do it anymore.

There is a reason United are so desperate to get rid of him and not negotiate a smaller contract. No other club in the top 6 would want him, and if we have aspirations of joining that gang, neither should we.

Hope he goes to America.

Since I don't want him here I can only hope you're right and couldn't spend energy on it debating it. But we'd never know unless we know. He can suck on a lemon for all I care.

I think the fee would be nominal if it happened but both clubs would list it as undisclosed. What a nominal fee is these days i have no idea but i'm pretty certain United would be happy taking a hit to get him of the wage bill.

A nominal fee? Some might say that's phe-nominal.

spot on with the reasons mate. I think he's an absolute tit with the way he left and kissing the manc badge like a knobhead. But he would infinitely be a better option right now than what we have and next season I've no doubt that he would play a big part. I'd bank on him scoring 15 in all comps and 10+ assists.

Clubs become successful clubs due to better players. At worst Rooney on the bench is a billion times better than anything we've ever had on the bench since he left and probably 10 years before it as well

It is quite interesting that Koeman and Walsh have both been talking about this. Makes it seem like the wheels are already in motion on the deal.
