Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

It is quite interesting that Koeman and Walsh have both been talking about this. Makes it seem like the wheels are already in motion on the deal.
I agree but the only flaw in that argument , as Mourinho points out , is that Koeman also talked about wanting Depay but Everton apparently made no offer.

My veiw for what it's worth, ie very little. It's a different situation than say, Depay. Wayne Rooney's return is a devisive topic among blues everywhere, Koeman and Walsh would be plain crazy to stir up emotions on both sides, unless they were seriously considering the move.

Interesting point.

Perhaps that were testing reaction by putting it out there - not thought about that.

I have to say that if , and it's a big if , he came on a nominal fee with wages about the same as Lukaku it is a great deal.

I could see him doing well as support striker to Rom , he would bring a winning mentality and raise the profile of the club in terms of signings and revenue.

I do not agree with the argument that he would impeed the progress of youngsters.

If we get into Europe we will have a lot of matches and realistically he will not play all the time

My thoughts exactly. I would add that he needs to accept there is no guaranteed starting place. He is part of a squad and if anything will play back up at times to Rom and Ross. Should be plenty of playing time to be had.

Short term option giving us time to develop younger players such as Tielemans etc. We have to accept its going to be very hard for the ckub to attract a top drawer finushed article at this stage in our development.

I'm not getting the 'it was a way of testing the water' stuff.

Surely him playing at Goodison for Everton at Duncan's testimonial was a good way of gauging that?

He got a good reception generally, and improved the side vastly and noticeably when he came on. This was a Martinez side mind, but still. A good player is a good player.

A problem I see is that Rooney doesn't want to sit on the bench at United so if he showed the same form as he did this season to next, would he start ahead of Lookman or Mirallas?

Lookman is too early to judge but for me he is a better option then Kone or Valencia.

On Mirallas, they show similar form:
Rooney - 17 games - 2 goals - 5 assists
Mirallas - 24 games - 3 goals - 3 assists

I think it all depends on how much he would cost perhaps Lukaku's agent is holding back until Rooney signs to see what contract Wayne will be getting?

For me, buy out his contract (£13m) then 3yr deal at £90k

If he returns to Goodison it will be FOR his age and experience, not in spite of it.

Think about it. Jags and Barry have both been dropped to the bench. It looks like Jags will be leaving in the summer, Barry less certain but he's not getting longer than another 12 months at the very most. We're now a team with several young players, and hoping to blood a few more. Koeman also knows though that he needs to strike a balance, that the Lookmans and Davieses could benefit immeasurably from the example, advice and mentoring of a Wayne Rooney. This is part of what Koeman means by "making the team stronger".

You've also got to look at it from Rooney's point of view. He can go to China and earn silly money. There's probably American clubs who could double whatever he'd be earning at Everton. If he returns, it won't be for an easy ride and a nice wage packet. It will be for a new challenge, and the chance to give something back to the club that he still loves.

This may be an old debate, but the situation is different. There are three questions to ask :

-- Are Man United prepared to let Rooney go ?

-- Are Everton willing and able to put up the money that it will take to sign Rooney ?

-- Is Rooney ready to quit Man United, and if so, would he want to come to Everton on the terms being offered ?

There are no definitive answers. We can't trust what we read in the press, and anyway, Everton's priorities may change in the next 3 months, and so may Man United's. But we're closer now to being able to say yes to each of these questions than at any time in the last 14 years.

Why would either of them understand the backstory and depth of feeling? They have only been here 5 minutes and will have minimal contact with any fans

They'll just think, Wayne Rooney returning, how could any fan not love the idea of that.

I get your point mate. For me, there's two separate points in my post.

1. Do you think Rooney makes us better?
2. Should the club be so open about us wanting him?

My take is, on point 1 he does, but this depends on his desire, motivation and attitude plus how he may be remunerated - all conjecture I know. So a woolly answer on this!

On the second point, I was surprised we were so open in agreeing a return. I thought it wasn't like Everton. I get Rom and Ross are integral whilst Rooney may be deemed surplus at Utd, but my point is more I think we previously placed great public store on not publicly talking about players under contract elsewhere and deriding other clubs who have done it to us, whether City & Lescott, Chelsea via Terry for Stones etc. Double standards in my book, you can't bitch one day and do it yourself the other. Perhaps a sign of our new financial clout, not sure.

Fair point on point 2. Although I doubt many of us would be fuming if we heard another team were interested in Kone

As for point 1, I'm still very much in 2 minds because I think it could go either of 2 ways. No middle ground, really good or really bad

If this happends I would give him the captaincy after short settling period. Imagine Rooney as our captain. Talking about small time no more.

Cmoon Lets make this happend Moshy

An old fat traitor as captain? That at least must never happen . Utter disgrace that would be.
