Are you going to throw out any other comparisons which are wide of the mark?

Rooney is younger than Barry was when he signed for us & is going to cost something similar to what Kone has for us.

That's assuming it's a 3 year deal as well, personally I think it would/should be 2.

Whats wrong with the comparisons? We're signing a player whose well past his sell by date. The only difference is he will be on not just decent money but absolutely incredible money for the very, very slim chance he's any good for us

This is spot on mate. And for those saying he isn't that old: no he isn't but he is clearly coming to the end of his career. He can do one and take his "brand" to USA or China.

I know we will sign him though, and it will be dressed up as a big signing, when it really really isn't.

If the manager wants him (and Koeman does seem to want him) I don't care - I trust the management.

Because the comparisons are massively wide of the mark.

Again he's going to cost around what Kone has cost Everton its not really that much money all in.

10 assists & 5 goals this season at a rate that's miles better than anyone in our squad bar Lukaku.

In between the name calling your points just don't stack up

Just out of interest why wouldn't you hold a grudge?

It is mad isn't it?

I have gone round in circles on here about the reasons why we shouldn't sign him etc but it's obvious that we wont change the minds of those that want him.

Realistically my feelings on him come down to this...

I am of an age where Rooney leaving us was the death knell of any romanticism regarding football.

I remember discussions at the time and supporters of other clubs were going on about Rooney leaving to join a "big club" and me saying at the time there is no chance he would leave. He is a blue, he is ours, he loves us etc. Didn't expect him to stay forever but I had to laugh at those know nothings who said he was leaving that summer.

And then he goes. First chance he gets. A little bit of football dies.

Fast forward 15 years (!) later and he wants to play for us again.

The romance may have died but I did always love how we had a bit of pride as a club. We took knocks but just got on with it. However now we are seemingly bending over backwards for him, people getting giddy at the thought of him pulling on a blue shirt again. "Yay! Wazza is coming "home"!" It's incredibly disappointing to me.

yes let's break our wage structure to accommodate a 31 year old who isn't good enough to start for his current club.
