Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

They left because they were not getting games.

Rooney is getting games and is not pulling up any trees. Also Lukaku came in on loan and Schniederlin had worked with the manager before.

It really is not comparable.

Errr they weren't getting game shecause they weren't deemed good enough for the side. Simple as that.

Rooney isn't getting lots of minutes but when he does his record is excellent. How many times are you just going to repeats things that simply aren't true

Edit: will post this again

Any of Rooney's stats you say

Mins per assist

Barkley 432.4
Mirallas 478.4
Bolasie 291
Davies 362.5
Lookman hasnt got one
Valencia 756
Lukaku 473.4
Rooney 179.7

Mins per Goal & assist

Barkley 216.2
Mirallas 239.4
Bolasie 232.8
Davies 241.4
Lookman 172
Valencia 378
Lukaku 102.4
Rooney 119.8

At least double the amount of assists of anyone else in our squad

Being a grown up has plenty to do with it, it means people can look past whatever feelings they have and look at a situation logically.

They don't have to make ridiculous comparisons to clubs signing players at the age of 39 or repeat mistruths like he left the first chance he could to try and back up the opinion that their grudge forces them to hold.

Personally you sound rather soulless. Not even saying that is a bad thing but it has got to matter and mean something otherwise why bother?

Logically I don't think he is what we need at the club. Or does only certain logic apply?

I have said loads of times stats are misleading and football is not a stat based game.

How many times are you going to try and patronize people?

Fair enough. But what the reality is that - "he isn't getting lots of minutes". We want a star player, not a[nother, tbh] Man United reject in the last 1 or 2 years of his career.

Also stats are a bit misleading - we were utter gash last season, yet their records are quite similar for then. Lookman's close to goals&assists/minute to Rooney because he's played about 2 games and has one goal.

Rooney does a good job to get to double figures, but he's progressively struggling each year. We can't hope to build a team around a star if the star is old and becomes more and more injury prone and immobile. If we get him on our average wage, so he fits in the structure, sure, why not. But he's gonna want a massive wage, because he's Wayne Rooney (and because he can get 10 times more per week in China. Anyone saying he's not gonna be tempted is just wrong).

Funnily enough it is my area! (Not with footballing teams to be fair...yet)

The marketing appeal is not based on Wayne Rooney though. That's what people need to grasp. The appeal is on Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and to a lesser extent England's captain Wayne Rooney. As soon as he comes to us he loses both of those things. People generally follow football clubs, not players (You will have one or two exceptions, Rooney is not one of them as he is as charismatic as a piece of wet cardboard). he is not a Beckham or a Ronaldo who are advertisers dream men, he is a shy, plain looking lad from Liverpool who was marketable because of his footballing ability (which may not be there any more, that debate will rumble on) and because he played for a team who people care about.

He has grown up I will give him that. In a strange way though that has also taken away some of his appeal. There are so many examples of him being unprofessional in the past that seem to have been glossed over.

Granted he is no Ronaldo or Beckham, but that is going to the extreme.

I still believe he is one of the biggest names in English football, but that isn't particularly hard I guess at present as we don't have any real superstars.

It would generate a lot of media attention though, add that to the new stadium, add that to the good young players he could bring on, I can't really see too many negatives.

Don't get me wrong though, if somebody else younger and of a certain stature is available and it means we don't go for Rooney I am all for that as well.

Hmmm it depends really. I agree with him being a big name (probably the biggest).

If he turns up and is a success then maybe the media attention will be a good thing. However if he turns up and doesn't do much (and that's what the signs will point to) then the media attention turns to media scrutiny which will not be beneficial to the club. "150k? What were they thinking?" "little Everton trying to mix it with the big boys and getting it horribly wrong" etc etc. It turns into a media circus then.

I am a fan of cheese sandwiches.

It doesn't mean I want to be one.

He has played for the club, worked hours in training as a child to put on that blue shirt and achieved it.

We've shouted and sung for them people wearing the shirt, aspired to be them when kids ourselves.

He has achieved his dream as a fan and is coming home.

He has put sweat and tears into wearing that shirt while we eat crisps and type words into a forum.

He is twice the fan of me and you.

Yes, but I'm twice the player he is and I'm 55!

I think all the media attention linking him to us is embarrassing. Players his age go to MLS or China for the last season or two.
Media are treating us like plucky little Everton, we should dismiss this as everything has changed, nothing is the same .... or is it ?

I don't think you understand what a fan actually is....

The ultimate goal for any fan is to play for the team they support. He has achieved that, me and you haven't.

He's a bigger fan due to it.
I would loved to have played for everton... you are right it's every fans dream... but just because he has played for Everton does that make him a bigger fan? Not sure I respectfully agree with that.... to me the fans who follow us away and travel up and down the country and bigger fans than me because I only go to home games...

But in reality we are all blues and love our club... never really liked this I'm a bigger fan than you stuff. Sorry to disagree with you mate.
