Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

It's not, he has dedicated years of his life to the club through training while we have been to a few games and type words on a football forum. He is more of a fan than me and you.

Plus, it's still possible for him to live the ultimate fans dream of scoring the winning goal in the fa cup final for the team he supports.

Mate, he was getting paid for doing a job. I propose to you that actually, me or you have put more of our own money into Everton than he has through following the club. Again you're confusing "more successful" with "more of a fan".

So in theory by your reckoning I can claim to be a better Olympian than Usain Bolt if I wanted.

Schneiderlin is not good enough for United, shall we get rid of him?? That's basically what you are saying.

Yes, I think we should be aiming for a higher quality player than Rooney. Schneiderlin is Rooneys junior by 5 years
a long time in football at prem level

If we piped them in the league would they be so willing to give us Rooney then?

What a defeatist attitude that is.

It shows zero ambition. Chance our arm on someone who is at the top of his game. Throw money at him.
If signing the England captain, leading England scorer of all time and leading Man Utd goal scorer of all time is a defeatist attitude then I cannot wait to see your suggestion. Rooney is 31years old , not 36. He has gone through a bad season because his manager has wanted to go a different direction, that happens in football, it happened with Schneiderlin, it happened with Mata and it has happened with Lukaku and De Bruyne..all with the same manager.
Is Rooney the only footballer in England that drinks..or smokes ? , I didn't know that.
Whereas I don't think a professional footballer should be smoking, I think you would be surprised how many do.

Would it show more ambition to Lukaku to be rejected by players who are not prepared to come to Everton at this time ?. We had that last summer and the rejection didn't feel to me as showing a winning attitude.
Throw money at them, We still cannot afford to throw the kind of money at top players they can earn at top clubs.
We are reportedly offering Lukaku 140,000 per week. if he goes to one of the big clubs that he craves that will nearly be doubled.

It is easy to throw suggestions round, but for a reasonable discussion there must a basis in reality.

You can hold a grudge and not let it effect your life. being a "grown up" has got nothing to do with it.

It's only football, and within football grudges are a good thing. Tribalism, us against them etc. Without it you have nothing.

Being a grown up has plenty to do with it, it means people can look past whatever feelings they have and look at a situation logically.

They don't have to make ridiculous comparisons to clubs signing players at the age of 39 or repeat mistruths like he left the first chance he could to try and back up the opinion that their grudge forces them to hold.

Also see Messi, Cruyff, Vialli, Zidane, Maradona.....hardly affected them has it now?

They all have a drink occasionally too.

Silly things to have a go at him for.
Aye, remember when any of those was clearly overweight (other than Maradona, but he was also on the beak and probably everything else)? I sure don't.

Also, quite morbid to say, but it did affect Cryuff, what with him passing away from lung cancer and having to have a bypass way before that...

As long as he isn't smoking and drinking while on the pitch then we should be alright.
Do people honestly believe that Rooney is not as good a professional as other footballers.
He is the leading goalscorer for club and country. He is still only 31, I think he may still even be able to run, certainly he should be able to walk onto the field.

I don't think even his biggest critics can argue about the player that he once was, the only question is at what % of his peak would he be operating at presently.
I believe that at Utd he has gone stale. I think a move to Everton in particular would give him a new lease of life for a season or two , maybe more.

If the financials are doable, I think it is a deal we have to be interested in.
Will it be a newsworthy item ?, undoubtedly. Even if it is only questioning the decision to let him leave Utd in the first place.
I'm skeptical about the mentioned % tbh.

He is a professional, but is he as good as, say, Gotze was at tackling his weight problems and fitness? No one's asking him to go to extremes, just stay fit so you're at least not goosed after 30 min on the pitch like.

Still only 31 but been off the pace for about 2-3 years now, it's not a given he's gonna be a good, or even a decent, signing, let alone this revelation people are expecting. Koeman's methods are also probably not to his liking tbh.

He's no longer the England captain, is aging. Let's leave the past to the past? All his records were 90%+ made when he was younger as well. Not like he scored 100 goals in the last 2 years ffs.

I have been through all this in my one million posts in this thread.

He is no longer in the England team (and being a captain really means nothing), he is Englands top scorer, however most of those goals came when he was still good. Same deal with Manchester United's leading scorer. They mean absolute zero in 2017.

It is not the same as the players you mentioned because Rooney has been playing, he just has not been playing very well. Personally I think he is finished so nothing else matters regarding what he has done in the past.

Also he has been playing week in, week out for 15 years. He has more miles on the clock than your average 31 year old.

As for Lukaku, this is beginning to annoy me now. Sod Lukaku and what he wants. We are all being taken for mugs here. He wants to play for a glamour club. We bring a broken down Rooney in and then Real Madrid flash their undies at Lukaku and what happens then? He will be off like a shot.

Nobody is bigger than the club.

I am a fan of cheese sandwiches.

It doesn't mean I want to be one.

I agree to a point. But in football terms he's still a big name. We need big names if we're gonna make a dent on and off the field.

See Man City when they signed Robinho, that led to Tevez, which led to Aguero.

It's a statement that says we can bring in a name, quality, and pay them. As we don't have champions league it's a route we need to go down.

Big difference with the City thing though....

They needed a big name signing at the time. We have one already in Lukaku.
