Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

Had an opportune chat with Paddy Crerand a few years ago and he said that Rooney regularly took Under 14's/15's training at Man U (don't know if he still does) and Paddy had never seen a reaction like it from the kids and he's been there a fair while! The inspiration he gave the little fellas was astounding - simply things like just playing headers and volleys to get them enjoying football. He is apparently an outstanding coach - I think he has done all his badges already but might be wrong.

For me it is almost more about what he brings off the pitch to the teams coming through than on it.

In my opinion signing Rooney would be the biggest confirmation to Lukaku, that his ambitions are to be matched elsewhere

A model pro that smokes, drinks, slacks off (as of recent, admitted he doesn't put his all) and hasn't been fit for about 2 years.

Some model, that.
As long as he isn't smoking and drinking while on the pitch then we should be alright.
Do people honestly believe that Rooney is not as good a professional as other footballers.
He is the leading goalscorer for club and country. He is still only 31, I think he may still even be able to run, certainly he should be able to walk onto the field.

I don't think even his biggest critics can argue about the player that he once was, the only question is at what % of his peak would he be operating at presently.
I believe that at Utd he has gone stale. I think a move to Everton in particular would give him a new lease of life for a season or two , maybe more.

If the financials are doable, I think it is a deal we have to be interested in.
Will it be a newsworthy item ?, undoubtedly. Even if it is only questioning the decision to let him leave Utd in the first place.

He's spent many years at youth level, dedication to Everton and honing his skill. Played numerous times for the first team and scoring.

I've not done that, don't think you have as well.

He has done more than be a supporter, he has and most likely be an Everton player again. A local boy done good, coming back home.

Due to him being a world wide name, he will therefore attract more media attention than any player currently on our books. Thus enhancing the name of Everton FC further worldwide IMO. Yes I get that we are a premier league side thus well known anyway, but this does nothing but boost Everton FC further into the spotlight, at a time when the club looks like its on an upward curve too, so win/win for me.

Don't ask me for a marketing strategy please, not my area! lol

Not sure why you worry about what other players learn from him, he is and always has been a model pro on the pitch, leads by example and always gives his all, as well as being very talented to boot.

Funnily enough it is my area! (Not with footballing teams to be fair...yet)

The marketing appeal is not based on Wayne Rooney though. That's what people need to grasp. The appeal is on Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and to a lesser extent England's captain Wayne Rooney. As soon as he comes to us he loses both of those things. People generally follow football clubs, not players (You will have one or two exceptions, Rooney is not one of them as he is as charismatic as a piece of wet cardboard). he is not a Beckham or a Ronaldo who are advertisers dream men, he is a shy, plain looking lad from Liverpool who was marketable because of his footballing ability (which may not be there any more, that debate will rumble on) and because he played for a team who people care about.

He has grown up I will give him that. In a strange way though that has also taken away some of his appeal. There are so many examples of him being unprofessional in the past that seem to have been glossed over.
