Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

Yeah of course. I don't think it is a way that will work for them though. At least with the premier league you always had the illusion that they were coming to play in the "best league in the world".
They definitely do not have that reputation over there! Also with Israeli leagues like. Don't know how much it would take to get me to play my football over there as a pro but it would be a lot!

I would much rather be known as a team who makes smart buys that pay large dividends (Seamus Coleman) than a team who forks over 30 mil as a huge roll of the dice on players like Batshuayi (whom I rate and should get more game time/go on loan, however you get what I mean) and gets next to nothing in return.

we've made plenty of bargains over the years and walsh coming in will still mean that we'll do that from time to time, but we still need to buy superstars. Rooney would be more than just signing a player for us, it would raise our profile and income massively etc. and pay for itself that way. We'd then buy other players to compliment this. We don't have enough winners in our squad atm and that's what i want to see most.

I want to see what you say, but we've been doing that for ages with the likes of arteta, cahill, coleman, jagielka etc. But these aren't players for the biggest stage, they've barely won anything and that's why we've always floated around that 6th or 7th mark. They're quality players, but they don't have the experiences of winning the most important games and that's reflected in our performances and results over the last decade.

Like it or not, Rooney will raise the profile of the club. Remember Moshiri's comments at the AGM about us having a small window in which to catch up to the top 6? Rooney's arrival will help towards achieving that aim, albeit not necessarily on the pitch. In terms of exposure and making the club more attractive to other players and neutral supporters, it is a no brainer. Also, his experience and winners mentality will be a bonus in and around the squad. I really can't see what harm it would do having him here for 2 seasons before moving into a coaching role with the club.

He has worked hard and honed his skills to play for the team he supported, making him a better fan than you and me.
I'm not sure I believe you believe this...
But in any event
There is no correlation mate. Leon Osman was a Liverpool fan who played for Everton. Is he a bigger Everton fan than a 40 year old season ticket holder?

It's all ridiculous anywhere because there is no concrete way of determining what makes a fan big, certainly not the coincidence that he also plays the game.

As I say, I suspect you're being a rascal with this...

We're absolutely on the same page with Rooney. I would welcome him here as long as it doesn't mean anyone needing to be sold to pay his wages like I'm reading.

With our financial backing now I agree we have to roll the dice now and then with the big money signings. Just want to keep that charm of a club that can make incredible buys (even with money like with Morg this season.)

Of course they are because their standard is the equivalent of non league football.

I somehow think it's not about the football mate. I do think Rooney will have a positive impact on the playing side, but this is about the money, advertising and commercial rights.

For us you mean?

There is no benefit advertising and commercial wise. He will own his own commercial rights.

I've got to disagree, his signing will increase interest and airtime around the globe with a knock on effect on sponsorship and other revenue streams such as advertising, merchandising etc. I understand how some are underwhelmed at the prospect, but commercially it is good news and is (IMO) the primary reason why Moshiri is keen, it's good business.

Really good point this. I'm a bit conflicted over the signing in terms of footballing ability, but everyone will be talking about Rooney at Everton... It's a huge signing in regard to profile, if it happens.

Signing Rooney as Lukaku's replacement would make no sense.

However I believe he would be an excellent 2nd striker and foil for Rom and make us far more potent up front.

What's with the rumours of him coming on a free? Is Rooney a big enough brand to bring in new supporters, as far as shirt sales abroad?
