Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

I've got to disagree, his signing will increase interest and airtime around the globe with a knock on effect on sponsorship and other revenue streams such as advertising, merchandising etc. I understand how some are underwhelmed at the prospect, but commercially it is good news and is (IMO) the primary reason why Moshiri is keen, it's good business.

As I have said loads before, nobody gives a toss about Wayne Rooney without Manchester United (and England to a lesser extent.)

The draw is Manchester United not Wayne Rooney. Most games are shown around the globe anyway and most of those people will be watching Man Utd as that is who they support. Its very rare that people support a player over a club.

What's with the rumours of him coming on a free? Is Rooney a big enough brand to bring in new supporters, as far as shirt sales abroad?

It would be cost effective for man Utd to get rid on a free rather than pay his massive wages for years to sit on the bench.

Doesn't matter about shirt sales, we are tied in to Kitbag so any extra sales will be going straight to them not us. People abroad probably dont go through the official channels anyway due to exchange rates etc.

If he comes back it will increase interest and awareness in EFC, especially in those parts of the world where the premiership is regarded as the best league. Whatever you think, Rooney is one of the biggest names in the game and if he comes back it will be a PR coup for us. In a game of fractions that makes a difference, it's why multi-nationals pay fortunes to the likes of Clooney to advertise their products, brand awareness. We need to raise our game and our profile and this is the sort of story that will help that process.

Like it or not, Rooney will raise the profile of the club. Remember Moshiri's comments at the AGM about us having a small window in which to catch up to the top 6? Rooney's arrival will help towards achieving that aim, albeit not necessarily on the pitch. In terms of exposure and making the club more attractive to other players and neutral supporters, it is a no brainer. Also, his experience and winners mentality will be a bonus in and around the squad. I really can't see what harm it would do having him here for 2 seasons before moving into a coaching role with the club.

My concern is how is the 150k a week going to affect attracting other top talent and paying their wages?

How much can we afford?

If Rooney doesn't play well that's a heck of a lot of money to have tied up in a player that may or may not have that much more to give at the highest level.

And is Rooney going to be replacing Lukaku or playing with him?

I get why some people are positive about him coming back and he may still have a lot to give on the pitch, despite my own worries, but we still don't know how strong a financial position we're going to be in or how much Moshiri can invest.

If Rooney will be Lukaku's replacement and we're going to pay him 150k a week that's a big risk on a player who doesn't look after himself off the pitch. If it's not going to hamper our spending on other players then I'll have to put my trust in Koeman and the board knowing what they're doing but if Rooney is going to be the only significant player coming in this summer it's a big risk.

Am I that old that I remember him breaking through as a 16 year old as one of the best things to happen for decades?

Mixed feelings about him being maybe past it, and keeping the young bloods out of the team but if he pulls on a royal blue shirt again, he will have my full support.

Welcome home, Wayne lad.

There is one hell of a difference between Clooney and Rooney! And even if something like that did happen it wouldn't be going to Everton as we wont own his image rights.

The increase in attention will be negligible at best. Brand Rooney with Manchester United is pretty worthless in 2017.

Signing Rooney as Lukaku's replacement would make no sense.

However I believe he would be an excellent 2nd striker and foil for Rom and make us far more potent up front.

We wouldn't sell the top striker in the league and replace him with someone who will only get us 6 or 7 goals.

Apparently he is willing to take a 50% pay cut to join us- he just wants to come home.

Tip for today - don't start it by pounding the bleach. No need to be a total Eeyore just because you can. If you could / would do a better job, you wouldn't be sniding about on GOT. Same for me, la.
Oh, so because I'm not a professional scout I shouldn't express my opinion. You are aware of what a fan forum is right? In the spirit of your post I'll call you a blert and move on.

How sweet of him. He wants to go away for prime of his career and come back 'home' and become our highest paid player when he hits decline.

The fact that he is on 300,000 is absolute crazyness. He will not get 150,000 anywhere else, other than maybe crazy offer from China. Don't buy this coming home bullshit.

Yeah, he'll ONLY be taking the £8m quid a year to come home. Even if he comes on a free he is not free. He is, in fact, very expensive and I don't see where we get value from this deal. I don't see him being worth millions a year in merchandising, new market exposures and I don't think he improves our starting 11 (maybe the squad)
