Transfer Rumour Wayne Rooney

We need good players, not name players.

Vast majority of good players are name players...That's why they're names.

How many years have we gone by trying to unearth than cheap gem of a player to take us to glory?

End of the day, we tried getting "good" players this summer. We're laughed at due to no champions league, lack of success, and brand name. We've spent £80million this season (partly due to selling Stones).

Hence why our best striker for decades is jumping ship.

the club sat a massive 2 points above us with worse goal differential? who've finished on average 5th the last three years and are on course to do so again? Jesus christ no wonder the media treats us like a small club, we do it to ourselves.

How many trophies have they won in the last 3 years?

As I have said loads before, nobody gives a toss about Wayne Rooney without Manchester United (and England to a lesser extent.)

The draw is Manchester United not Wayne Rooney. Most games are shown around the globe anyway and most of those people will be watching Man Utd as that is who they support. Its very rare that people support a player over a club.
I can guarantee you Everton would get more publicity here in the states if Rooney signed on again. If it just helps grow the global brand, it could be a decent bit of business. Over here, Everton are behind the likes of Newcastle in terms of popularity. The fact that he's a name people know gives Everton an instant boost in markets like ours.

De Bruyne - 23
Juan Mata - 24
My point is that managers get things right and get things wrong. Saying Mourinho is a poor judge of a player is a bit of a weird argument considering his eight league titles, seven domestic cup wins, a Uefa cup and two champions league wins. He has let some good players go in the past though so Rooney will definitely be boss.

Very Everton move this in both a good and bad sense. Bad sense: sadly, we have a history of buying great players who are just getting past it. Good sense: bringing an old blue back into the fold. Think he can sell shirts, raise our profile abroad, and have an impact in the dressing room. Don't see him as a coach tbh.

Whether this is a good move or not given his age and ridiculous wages, I think people will be surprised by how good he is for us. At least for a season or so.

He's clearly had it at United. He's known for a while the manager doesn't fancy him and will be getting rid of him at some point soon, he's already broken the record, he's on his way out of the England fold etc. etc.

He'll come to Goodison with a new lease of life, put 100% effort in and get a huge confidence boost being alongside players who look up to him rather than see him as an old man like they seem to at United. He's being made to look like a wallflower by Zlatan and doesn't get a game. Watch him come here and love being the big deal. How long his body will last I'm not sure.

If it's a big if he buys into koemans methods and actually gets fit and motivated again I think he could potentially have his best season since 11/12. I'm unsure on the deal because I don't know what Rooney will turn up

Would any other club take him on a free transfer?
I think the majority would. We're getting blinkered by previous events

It's not the fee that's the issue, it's the wages.

If it's two years on no more than £150k a week, and it isn't a replacement for Lukaku, then I'm not that worried about it happening.

Understood, but if we want to progress we have to start attracting big names and initially pay over the going rate until we have got new success

I know, but Rooney is arguably not a big name anymore.

I was shouting for a statement signing in the summer as we clearly needed one, as we do now. Mata would have been it, but Rooney? Not quite it for me.
