Both played Champions League with Spurs. While Everton finished 4th from bottom when Wayne went onto star at Euro 2004.

He left to further his career because his talent outgrew the club.

He is a winner and Everton legend.

"His talent outgrew the club" so in other words we are small time and good players shouldn't play for us.

By the way we finished 4th a year later

Bill will probably insist that the offical site is given a dark grey sombre background for the announcement of his departure, like when one of our greats dies. You know what he's like.

Our ambitions should have matched his talents.

His move was the right choice for his career, working under the greatest manager this country has ever seen and winning a shedload trophies.

It's the clubs fault for him leaving.

Still, he is the greatest Evertonian to come through the ranks at the club. He is a Everton fan and legend in the game. The greatest goal scorer for England and he came through the Everton youth system.

Ergo Everton legend.

Truth is to be a accorded an epithet such as ‘great’ or ‘legend’ the overwhelming majority of the clubs fan base would realistically have to support the accolade since that is what defines such a symbol of respect and affection.
Unfortunately for Rooney a significant portion of our support hold him in low esteem.

If he was a proper blue he would stay and drop his wage down to whatever our other highest earners are on. If he can't play for us for 80k a week then that's a bit pathetic tbh.

He doesn't deserve his wage at all. I don't lke that we changed our whole structure to give a player past his best far more than everyone else.

Because he is the greatest player to come through our ranks for decades.

Ergo Everton legend.
Coming up through our academy is not how you become an Everton legend. Playing and performing for the club and its supporters for years and showing tons of passion for the badge is. In other words, someone like Coleman is a waaaay bigger player in our history than Rooney. When PSG and Bayern came calling a couple of seasons ago, Coleman kept his head down and focused on his football. Rooney left asap and has over his carrer cost Everton more points by scoring on us than he earned by scoring for us. Him coming back after sucking too much to make the manu bech does not in any way make him a great either.
By your logic, our academy is legendary for having produced one of uniteds best ever players, but how did that help Everton?

He is not and never will be an Everton great. He is a manc legend, and always will be, no amount of nostalgia can change that.
