We need to talk about England fans.

Should England be banned from a tournament or two?

It's not a new problem this, it hasn't just appeared, we just catch it on camera more.
Absolutely bang on. The medium has changed as has, broadly speaking, what is considered acceptable to do openly.

Social media offers anonymity. It ain't something done openly at stadiums any more.

There's a really good Adrian Chile's fronted documentary on the issue. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b084fmgv

Isn Wright did a decent series too for ITV.

I'm wondering if the 55-year wait between major finals contributed to the mayhem Sunday. I mean, appearing in a few more over the years might have lent a "been there, done that" attitude.

I live down south and for the Ukraine match i brought by other half out to watch it as she is Ukrainian, I thought I won't bring her to a busy pub just a nice quiet country pub we knew and where our friends are locals and would be there. My mrs is not even 5ft and if i have to say i am massively punching and she had a Ukrainian shirt on but my word that there were grown men hurling comments at her if she got up from the table for a moment, I don't understand the aggressive nature it's share ignorance it's Millwall esque. The German bombers song is embarrassing and the way people defend fans behaviour with the tired push back lines of 'it's only a minority' or it was the 'police/security/Other fans started it', the whole thing is a massive cringe, there are too many at it no matter what the number is. English supporters embarrassed the country booing the players taking the knee to a smaller extent the opposing national anthem but I firmly believe the last few weeks was a snap shot of where England as a country is in 2021 and it feels like it is in a very troubled place.

It is. And if the Brexiters win by peddling unfounded fear of foreign people to half-witted peasants then what do we expect? Whatever the rights and wrongs of that argument it was won on racism. Many tories are down on Rashford for winning his argument and the criticism from Patel was beyond belief on taking the knee.
Maybe they would prefer a good old fashioned riot.
This England team has decency and credibility. Watch the press try to ruin that image once their tory mates request a witch hunt.

I will say that I may or may not speak for myself here but when I personally say 'It is the minority' it is simply in counter arguments to those who are not prefacing their comments with the fact that not all English fans are like this. A fair few posts over the last few weeks are insinuating about all England fans, calling us kopites, racist, thugs, etc.

For me, it is a defence mechanism to highlight that I am not a thug, racist, etc. All I am doing is supporting a football team.

There is so much good around the country, and while not ignoring the bad, it would be good for us all to focus on what is happening in Manchester, read what the players are saying, how they are very actively disowning these morons. It may be a pipe dream but little by little we are getting into their psyche and showing them for what they are.......Not wanted.

It’s a massive problem. English society is broken. Crazy thing is a lot of those scumbags will hold down decent respectable jobs and live normal lives. However this merely masks the demons that dwell within.

Cocaine, alcohol, racist, bigoted, xenophobic views, yob culture - add football to the mix and you have a massive problem in this country.

It’s our society that somehow dictates that you have to be off your face to have a good time.

I don’t have any answers - it’s been this way for as long as I can remember. Firstly though we need to do the decent thing and remove ourselves from hosting the WC in 2030.

I love England but it sickens me to see it overrun with scum who continually drag us down to their level.

Every clubs has knobs some more than others *cough KOPITES cough*

With England it's as if all the knobs get called up and they all merge through they love of football add their prehistoric views plus a splash of alcohol and a pinch of drugs = TV ENGLAND FAN.

You can't paint everyone with the same brush.

I love England all the "Scouse Not England" parade Knobs always rock up during the Quarter Finals, but hate the attachment of the Teds who attached themselves to them but that's every single nation and clubs around the world, to single England out is pointless because we know clubs and countries who are on par or worse.

I think the best thing to do is stop these fans from EVERY traveling abroad under the "representation" of England. You see these knobs everywhere without the football to shield them and they need passports taken off them and see how much they love their "country" when they can't go Tenerife!

If England’s own media reported on their own fans with this clear headed honesty and condemnation then it might help bring them some self awareness. It’s why we shouldn’t allow deflection and whataboutism, they’re shameless, they are many and they are empowered.

Well said.

It's not too far a leap to see why Boris Johnson is so popular in this country. He promises these man-children what they want. There's no reflection or questioning. Pure emotive reaction to getting or not getting. Powered by the basest instincts.

Truly England is damned.

Spot on. As long as the populist gets their vote they will pander to all their worst instincts, thus validating them.

She is of course right, but she got one thing wrong.

They would have done the same if we had won as it has nothing to do with football, it has to do with them not having brains. A lot of the problems were also from before the game, they have zero to little interest in the game itself, they only want a fight because, well I am not a psychiatrist so I don't know why. I cannot personally get into that mindset at all.

Luckily for England, as a nation, there are a lot of good people who watch football and don't watch football, fingers crossed that we may be getting closer to the line being crossed for these idiots and they have gone too far and all the good people in the country will start to truly show them for what they are.

Whilst I like the sentiment of promoting the good it isn’t apt in this latest instance of mass English fan behaviour mate. It’s widespread, it’s continual and it seems to be getting worse. There is a toxic culture amongst so many going the game and their national team energises the worst out of them. Condemnation and punishment is the only language they will understand. England fans need to own them rather than deflect.
