We need to talk about England fans.

Should England be banned from a tournament or two?

Whilst I like the sentiment of promoting the good it isn’t apt in this latest instance of mass English fan behaviour mate. It’s widespread, it’s continual and it seems to be getting worse. There is a toxic culture amongst so many going the game and their national team energises the worst out of them. Condemnation and punishment is the only language they will understand. England fans need to own them rather than deflect.

It is always apt to promote positive stories, regardless of the situation.

Manchester, being one. I for one am uplifted by what happened at the Rashford Mural and it should be highlighted alongside what happened at Wembley, not instead of, but together, to show the difference in people, to highlight how idiotic those morons look compared to good natured and morally intelligent people.

It is not deflecting by talking about positive things, as mentioned, in relation to the negative things. I don't believe anybody here, in the last few days has ignored it. I mentioned it before, it could be seen as a defence mechanism to say 'it is the minority', etc. It is a case of I am a football supporter and I am not associated with these morons.

If somebody comes up to me in the street and has a go at me for being an England supporter and stating what happened at Wembley, do I just be submissive and apologise or do I stand for my right to not be associated with these people, do I stand there and highlight the good in other people, do I proclaim that I am not one of them. That is not deflecting, that is basically standing up for every good fan, every good person in the country who also should not be associated with them, who are also (factually) still in the majority. Very much the same as you would do by shouting that you are scouse not English because like it or not you are geographically English and people will associate you with them just as much as me :)

The mask slipped at the end. Scouse resentment, I knew it, I damned well knew it. It just needs coaxing out, gently sometimes, but it always arrives.

Not just confined to football matches. Check out any given city centre, town or village high street on a Friday/Saturday night and you will see this behaviour.

English society and culture has been eroded to a point where honest decent folk swerve these places at weekends. I really feel for anybody working in hospitality and having to deal with this behaviour week in / week out.

I’m Scottish but have lived in England for many years.
It was mentioned earlier in the thread about the St George flags with club names on them and the vast majority of them being lower league clubs. I noticed this a few years ago and came to the conclusion it was because these teams will never be successful or get to play in Europe. So when it comes to England it’s like it’s a big adventure like the hillbillies going to the big city or something and they don’t really know how to behave or just don’t care. Scottish fans go as one supporting the country (believe me we are not perfect) but the English seem happy to be splintered into club sides supporting and come across very aggressive. They don’t know how to be nationally proud without trying to intimidate.
I feel some actually think that they have some divine right to win and look down on other countries.
Are we stuck with the memory’s of the imperial past?
Some don’t want to let it go.

It’s a massive problem. English society is broken. Crazy thing is a lot of those scumbags will hold down decent respectable jobs and live normal lives. However this merely masks the demons that dwell within.

Cocaine, alcohol, racist, bigoted, xenophobic views, yob culture - add football to the mix and you have a massive problem in this country.

It’s our society that somehow dictates that you have to be off your face to have a good time.

I don’t have any answers - it’s been this way for as long as I can remember. Firstly though we need to do the decent thing and remove ourselves from hosting the WC in 2030.

I love England but it sickens me to see it overrun with scum who continually drag us down to their level.
I used to know a bloke, via a friend and see him when we went for a drink. He was a blue. After a couple of years he told me what part of the ground he got a ticket for was dictated by the chance of getting into the away fans for a fight.
Good job, appeared normal, scum as it turned out.
People are strange

For a nation whose main attribute is pissing in the street of whatever city they visit and insulting women with neanderthal sexual comment...I would be quiet

I would agree with that, to a point.

The reason that it is not fully agreed with is that I also support a lower league side and there are a few of the supporters that are members of the England supporters club and have travelled round the world supporting England. They are good honest football fans who simply enjoy watching the game, I obviously cannot speak outside of how they behave watching Barrow but I would be extremely shocked if they ever behaved even the most tiniest bit like we see these morons behave like.

Good stuff your supporting a lower division team I do also and my son is a season ticket for that club. I like to go along and watch my local non league side.
It was just my observation from watching the games on tv.
Years ago you got the big club’s name on the flags now it seems to be smaller clubs.
The thing is we have morons everywhere unfortunately. They seem to be the ones that get all the attention and we all get tarred with the same brush.

With the whole fan behavior of the English fans in this Euros, I feel like the English have relinquished their "moral superiority" to attack Qatar for hosting the 2022 WC.
