For me football at its best is not tied to a “winning is everything” attitude. I love the sport and I don’t think % football and risk-averse tactics are football at it’s best, whether it wins or loses trophy’s.

Currently tho Everton can play any old crap way necessary and I don’t care so long as we stay up

In that first sentence you have hit the nail on the head, winning and losing.

If you are winning then this is where the entitlement comes in, if you are losing then you have a right to complain about the style of play.

At the end of the day, for me, winning and losing comes first and the style of football comes second. That is the beauty of football, there is more than one way to win a game of football.

Neutral football, is a different argument. Wanting to watch good football when a neutral is certainly not entitlement. However, as I mentioned, I like competitive football. If I went to see a game and it was close and competitive then there is a good chance I would be entertained, regardless of the style of football. If it was 2 teams playing it around nicely but cancelling each other out and not creating chances then that would be boring, if it was 2 teams who play it long more but both created lots of chances, then there is a very good chance that I will be entertained.
Under Allardyce we finished 8th, won more than we lost but the majority still wanted him gone. But yes I agree there are lots of different ways to play the game and I think that's good.

It begs the question; are fans reasonable in their desire for entertainment? Or is it another example of the modern fan being out of touch and entitled?

No, it's unreasonable if you aren't a glory hunter. Fans should have hope or expect excitement, in some reasonable amount, provided they have appropriate expectations for the season. But not all clubs can be "entertaining," whatever that means. And a lot of entertaining clubs play a boring style to control the match. Is a team entertaining because it attempts 700 passes a match?

That's not to say that Moyes isn't forcing a boring style of play on West Ham or that their fans aren't right to be disappointed with results, but "entertaining" is absolutely not a valid expectation for the average football supporter.

Different times though, we had hope and a positive mindset back then and he was very much an obvious stop gap dinosaur.

I really couldn’t care less.

I loved 2004/05 when we kept grinding out 1-0 wins on our way to a top 4 finish.

Martinez’s first season Everton played really exciting football and finished 5th.

I’d take the higher league position every time, because that’s the point - to compete and hopefully win.

Even ‘boring’ teams can play in some absolute classics because of the nature of the game. Surely a supporter wants their team to do well first, and be entertaining second. If you can’t stand dull games, maybe it’s not a sport you should invest much time in.

I've seen some terrible Everton teams in my time, but have to say the last three seasons in particular in the main the "football" served up has been atrocious, anti football even, zero entertainment, there is no joy watching us,just the hope we can "grind" a result somehow, for the dough we pay as season ticket holders and going away it is truly depressing.
