I've often wondered. Not sure about the mileages but the accent in rural South of France is very different to the North. They say "ving" not "vahn" for wine. You end up talking like that too if you spend any length of time there!

I am just back from Peurto Pollensa and I have to say English people are loud, more so southern English people. Everywhere I went you would hear southern English people talking louder than anyone else. The accent or the tone just seems to cut through the air more so than others. I could have just been near very loud English people a lot of the time, any thoughts.

I do find the enjoyment people find in being serfs quite weird.
Hate the royals and do nothing, or be apathetic, but to actively defend those inbred bumholes from verbal attack or those questioning the validity of a monarchy in this century is quite astounding to me.
Also not protesting or rioting as the NHS gets gutted. Accepting that 30 minutes is a good time for an ambulance because you've been told there's no money for health but the government is swimming in cash to waste on things like £37 billion on the test and trace debacle.
