I'm just curious as planned economies failed massively in the eastern Bloc, so I'm not sure how a central state could plan the labour force with any success.

I'm not swerving the subject onto anything, you said the island wasn't overpopulated and acted like we've got loads of room. Fact is, overpopulation and the ecological strain being put on the planet is a worldwide issue and the UK is already suffering. I wouldn't have a clue and I don't pretend I do. I just know what should happen, so I guess whoever is PM should decide the sensible immigration levels and also try and repair some of the damage already done by letting unskilled and pointless people in.

Yep and in holland and belgium its also a massive issue. People from asia are flocking to europe in their millions to look for a better life (I suppose who can blame them) but in turn are setting up their own little ghettos that can only be described as looking like something from back where they came from. I can't see this as being positive. There is a good reason they left!

And this in a nutshell is a big problem in the UK today.

Not the immigrants but the native population being poorly informed and forming dangerous right wing notions.

If immigration was truly strangling the country then Id be wanting a resolution too. But it's negligible effect, but a very easy target.
