I thought the Osman substitution worked really well, and I think this is how we need to use Osman this season. He is not a starter for me but can be a useful squad member. When the opposition is tiring, using him in the right position can really create some chances, in a different way than bringing on a winger does.

That move which almost resulted in an Ossie goal was an absolute joy. Last 15/20 him coming on to retain the ball and be a calming influence on the ball with be very useful, surprised how many chances we continued to create when he came on.
Agree with both of you. Osman was more effective in the 25 minutes he played yesterday than he was in the 75 he had against Arsenal. I could see him scoring half a dozen goals this season if RM uses him as an impact sub.

I'd rest Stones on Thursday and play with Alcaraz or Distin depending if the Milkman is fit... keep Stones fresh for Sunday. Maybe even give Jagielka half a game too. Wolfsburg are rubbish, so we should smash them. Want to see Barry given a rest on Thursday and start Besic, again perhaps Barry and McCarthy half a game each. I'd start Osman over Naismith, again for fitness reasons. Lots of options from the bench so we shouldn't be going into Sunday with everybody knackered.

Howard
Coleman - Alcaraz/Distin - Jagielka - Baines
McCarthy
Atsu - Besic - Osman - McGeady
Lukaku

Wolfsburg aren't rubbish at all. We'll need a good team to beat them.

Wolfsburg aren't great are they, we've got a load of games in a short space of time coming up so we're going to need key players rested.

I'd start Eto'o if he's fit.

were people booing brunt off today mate/ironic cheers when he was substituted?

I don't think they were aimed at Chris Brunt - although a few might have been.

There was a chant of "Irvine where's your subs" minutes before and it happened to be Brunt that got hauled off to the sound of ironic cheers.

The game had been dead and buried for a long while and it was obvious to anybody that we needed some changes about five or ten minutes after half time. Unsurprisingly, Alan left it forever again and we were 2-0 down by that point and you were cruising.

Trained by Moyes.
