I think we'll bounce back with a solid win here. Would love us to keep a clean sheet.
Would like to see McGeady start while he is in form.
WBA 0 - 2 Everton
I should have put a bet on
Great 3 points and clean sheet away from home...that's the most important thing. Our defence needed the confidence boost.
I agree that It wasn't the best first half, our midfield just did not control the game enough, and I was thinking at half time, that give it 10 more minutes and then think about bringing Besic or Gibson on to grab hold of the game a bit more. Thankfully though, I think Barry stepped up in the second half and he really clicked into gear.
Contrary to what some people have mentioned, I thought Naismith had a really good game. Yeah, he missed an absolute sitter, and he made a few mistakes towards the end, but his general play in that position has improved so much and I don't think people realise how much he brings other people into the game. The first goal wouldn't have happened without him, he receives a tricky ball just past the half way line, quickly gets it to his feet as he turns and plays the ball to the left quickly, and we score from the resulting attack.
Stones had a good solid game and I think he has done enough there to earn a starting position when Distin is back. A few times he brought the ball out from the back with some pace and released the ball quickly, and it just makes you realise that you are never gonna get that with Distin or Jagielka.
Mirrallas had a good game and he has impressed me in all of his appearance this season. I really want this to be the season for him to step up, because he has been showing glimpses of greatness for so long, but every time he builds up form he either gets injured or fades away again.
I thought the Osman substitution worked really well, and I think this is how we need to use Osman this season. He is not a starter for me but can be a useful squad member. When the opposition is tiring, using him in the right position can really create some chances, in a different way than bringing on a winger does.
Not the most exciting game ever, but I think if we had Pienaar and Eto'o on the bench, then we would have probably brought Eto'o on for Lukaku on 60 minutes and Pienaar on for McGeady...and I think with those substitutions we would have ended up scoring more.
