What are you currently listening to?

Never bothered with Slowdive past Souvlaki. But this is good, is it worth diving in? (excuse the pun)
Their entire catalogue is excellent.

First album is perhaps a little derivative but if you like Souvlaki then I don't see any reason why you wouldn't enjoy it.

The first three EPs are really good, especially when you consider they were teenagers when they came out. Morningrise is probably the pick of them, I think, just because of the b-sides.

Third LP "Pygmalion" is a major departure from their "shoegaze" sound, its really minimal and sparse, and doesn't really sound like anything else. It's more post-rock than shoegaze. The closest reference points I can think of are Talk Talk's "Spirit of Eden", or Bark Psychosis. I've been a huge fan since they were first around, Rachel is one of my ex's best friends, and this is the LP I come back to most these days.

The "comeback" LP was really, really good, it sounded fresh and vital, and they tried out some new ideas on it which largely worked, closer "Falling Ashes" is a stunner.

I'd recommend checking out Mojave 3 and Neil's solo stuff, too. Mojave 3 was Neil, Rachel and Ian, who played drums on Pygmalion, its got a bit of an alt-country vibe, and Neil's solo stuff is a bit more folky. His "Palindrome Hunches" LP is a favourite of mine.

The Datsuns were so good, and still going. First saw them supporting The Pattern at the Fleece in Bristol. They filmed the video for their first single that night. Met them afterwards, and at other gigs since then… proper sound blokes👌🏻

Also check out The D4 album 6Twenty for another decent garage rock album 👍🏻

I bought a couple of their early albums on cd, still got them and saw them a couple more times, but the venues for their gigs got smaller each time I saw them.

Great live band, full of energy and played like their lives depended on it.

Reminded me a lot of early Led Zep.

Yeah loads of energy, and lead guitarist is quality!

I’ve got a couple of vinyl singles signed by the band from when I saw them the first couple of times in the early 2000’s. Only just managed to get them on the wall.

James Hetfield is one of the legacy band singers that hasn't lost any power in his voice due to age, they're still rocking it 40yearsish in
